Good afternoon everyone. How are you today? I hope you are doing well and keep your spirits up in carrying out your respective activities. Previously I apologize for not being active for a few days because my health condition is declining and I am not able to write, thank God I was able to come back to greet you all. So in this post I want to write about mental health.

Last Monday (10 October) became World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is a day to raise awareness about a growing global problem that people somehow don't feel comfortable talking about. What are the biggest mental health problems plaguing our world and how can we address them?

If someone asks "How are you?" by default our answers are mostly "I'm fine" or "fine". But what if we're really not okay? We don't need to say we're fine when our actual condition is the opposite. It's humane not to be okay all the time, and it's important that we let our tantrums out.

We seek help when we are broken or injured, why not do the same when we are heartbroken or when we are feeling down. We choose to take sick leave for the sake of physical health but almost never for the sake of mental health. I'm sure none of us have ever said to our boss at work "I'm sorry, I'm heartbroken again." But if you ask permission because of the flu or physical health problems, you must have (often even).

The day was first celebrated in 1992 as a means to raise awareness of mental health issues. Also aims to help remove the bad stigma attached to Mental Health. This year the theme is "Making mental health and well-being for all a global priority."

The world talks about conquering outer space but we lost the war with our own minds. Why is mental health taboo to talk about? Mental health disorders kill about 800,000 people per year. More than 300 million people suffer from depression. More than 260 million people live with anxiety disorders. Then there are millions of people living with both. Dementia affects about 55 million people, and bipolar disorder about 40 million people.

Mental health has become a silent pandemic and is killing millions of people. The Covid-19 pandemic is exacerbating this crisis. It is estimated that anxiety and repressive disorders rose by more than 25 percent during the first year of the pandemic. The pandemic has severely disrupted mental health services and the treatment gap for patients with mental health disorders is widening. Social stigma and discrimination can exacerbate this situation. As a result, more and more people are committing suicide.

We can fight and stop it. World Mental Health Day is one of the initiatives to combat all this. For starters, we can encourage a conversation about Mental Health. From television and newspaper headlines, to talk shows, to the dining table. Mental health should be something we are comfortable talking about. We must understand that depression and anxiety are not taboo.

Next step, don't hesitate to seek help. We live very exhausting and stressful lives. Deadlines at work, fleeting relationships, to pressure from social media. There are many factors that make us depressed, so it is very human to suffer from anxiety or depression.

Mental problems start when we hide them. Half of all mental illness begins at age 14. Most cases go undetected or untreated. The result is suicide, the leading cause of death among 15 to 29 year olds.

The global suicide rate has decreased. Even so the WHO says that there are still more than 700,000 people commit suicide every year. Suicide attempts vary by age but still affect every segment of society, so mental health problems need to be diagnosed early to prevent loss of life.
