INTRODUCTION
It's such a big delight to participate in this amazing contest organized by @ngoenyi to share my favorite childhood story and the lessons. It really gives me a flashback about my most enjoyable childhood moments "Listening To Stories And Telling Stories"
Growing up, I listened to a lot of stories from family, friends and teachers. But one amazing childhood story that always guides me as a full grown lady hoping to get married someday was sounded into my ears by my mother, and she always tagged this story in form of a proverb ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD
So the title of my story is THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS AND HER SKULL HUSBAND
READ AND ENJOY!
THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS AND HER SKULL HUSBAND
A long time ago, there lived a very wealthy king in a notable village. He had a very beautiful princess of marriageable age. All the young men in the village asked for her hand in marriage, but she refused all offers of marriage and called them poor and ugly. The princess was very selective with choices and arrogant to all the men that wanted to marry her.
In spite of repeated caution from her parents, she refused to marry any man from her village. She vowed to marry a rich prince from any far away village. Her prince would be the most handsome and most wealthy man in the entire world. So the princess continued to disobey her parents, at which they were very much angry with her.
One day, the princess got a news that a very handsome prince who is good looking than other men in the village had been seen in the market.
And immediately she rushed to the market at once, she saw the most handsome man she had ever set her eyes on and she fell in love immediately as well. So, she invited him to her father's house. The prince was delighted, and went home with her.
On his arrival, the handsome prince was introduced by the princess to her parents. The prince immediately asked their consent to marry their daughter. They refused at first, as the prince is a stranger, but finally they agreed. And after the marriage ceremony, the prince was ready to take his wife back to the village which was far off. The princess was overjoyed, as she thought she married the man of her dreams, her parents tried to persuade her not to go yet. However, being very stubborn, she made up her mind to go, and they started off together.
They journeyed for several days, and found their selves in the spirit land and from the spirit land, strange things began to happen. First of all a man came to the prince and demanded for his legs, then another his head, and the next his body, and so on, until the prince was left with nothing but a skull.
The princess became very terrified at what had happened to her handsome prince. The prince seeing how terrified the princess was laughed at her and confessed that the she was now seeing him in his natural state that he borrowed all his body parts from the other spirits so he would look like a human being when he went to ask for her hand in marriage.
The princess wanted to return home, but the skull did not allow her, and ordered her to go with him. When they arrived at the skull's house they found his old mother, quite very weak and incapable of doing any thing. She tried her best to help her, and cooked her food, and brought water and firewood for the old woman. The skull's mother was very grateful for the care, and soon became very friendly with the princess.
One day the old woman had compassion on her, and decided to help her go back to parents. She promised to send her back to her village, provided that she would never disobey her parents again. Then the old woman sent for a good hairdresser, the spider and made her adorn the princess hair and body in the latest fashion and also did other good things on account of her kindness. She then used her supernatural power to call the breeze to gently carry her to her father’s house. Soon afterwards, the breeze blew the princess to her home and when the king and the queen saw their daughter they were very glad, as they had for some months given her up as lost. After many years, another prince from a neighbouring village came to ask for the princess hand in marriage and she willingly accepted, and lived with him for many years, and had many children.
THE END!
What are the lessons learned from that story?
The lessons I learnt from the story includes;
•Disobedience to our parents is a very bad characteristics that shouldn't be cultivated
•As a young lady hoping to be married soon I should not be deceived with the outward or physical looks of my suitors because "all that glitters is not gold"
•One should not take immediate actions on choices or decisions. There should be a little delay to really be sure about our choices.
•One should show love and care to strangers especially those who are incapacitated as it comes with a lot of blessings.
•We tend to make wrong choices in life sometimes, when the wrong choices made comes to haunt us the lessons learnt should be taken note of to avoid making such wrong choices next time.
How did you learn the story or who told you the story?
I learnt this story when I was curious to know what the proverb "ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD" means from my lovely mother. So she explained the proverb for me using the story.
At what age did you learn the story?
I learnt this story at the age of 10.
CONCLUSION
There are lots of amazing stories that we listened to during our childhood times but there are few which have being our guide throughout those childhood times and even now as adults.
I invite @chikelly19 @lukec and @stanleynnah to participate in this contest.

Very interesting story I see here, the princess disobeyed her parents and got this result, but because of her act of kindness she was saved, no wonder she agreed to marry another man that came by.

Dear @niglys8, your story line is so sweet but it's not free from plagiarism which is a taboo in steemkids. Kindly work hard to always write in your own words.
