I am happy to be back. Right now, I will be participating in the contest hosted by steemkids with the topic Instilling Descipline In A Child, How Is It Done In Your Locality?.

This is really an interesting topic as methods and ways of disciplining varies from place to place, country to country, continent to continent.

I will be using the tips of this contest to explain more about disciplining children.

What is discipline? Please write what you think discipline is. Write in your own words.

Discipline can mean various things depending on its usage. Some of the meanings can be

° it can defined as the ability of a person to control others by applying or enforcing obedience and order.

° it can also be described as the wonderful ability of controlling oneself (self control).

° it could also mean a particular way or pattern of doing things.

° it may also involve punishment and training intended to correct, or mold a person's character.

I will stop at this 4 definitions.

From the 4 definitions the one that suits our topic with respect to its context is the first and fourth definition which entails

Correcting
Enforcing obedience and order
Punishment and training

with the aim of molding a persons emotional and moral character for good.

What forms does discipline take in your locality?

In my locality, discipline can take various forms.

1. Spanking

2. Moral suasion

3. Denial of certain privileges

4. Imposing of some restrictions.

These are some forms of disciplining a child in my locality.

What usually give rise to discipline in your locality?

Several reasons can cause a child to be disciplined.

When a child behaves wrongly (lying, stealing etc), after several counseling ( which is also a form of discipline), it usually warrants a stiffer discipline.

Sometimes too, a child may have a certain behavioural attitude which the parents seeks to help the child change at an early age. This too would involve discipline.

Children too loves to throw tantrums, this requires discipline too.

How does the kids respond to discipline in your locality.

Response to discipline is varied. This is because each child is unique and thus have various ways of responding to discipline.

However, response to discipline by kids if rated on a scale of 1 to 10, can be scored 7/10.

This is because not all respond favorably at the same time. Some may accept immediately, while others would require time to pass before they can fully understand the reason for such discipline.

Additionally, there are others that would wait until they have a negative experience before they understand the value of such discipline.

What do you think is the best form of discipline to be given to a child?

There is no universally accepted best form discipline.

However, a discipline that corrects a child, helping him to change would be regarded as the best form of discipline for that child.

Every child is unique, thus having different responses to any form of discipline.
So what works best for a child is the best discipline for that child.

Why is discipline important in a child's life?

A child is just like a tomato plant that requires a stake to grow upright and bear good fruit.and avoid being damaged on the soil. In the same way, discipline acts like that stake that guides a child to become a responsible person.

Discipline helps to shape a child's life. It helps the child establish boundaries of right and wrong, enabling the child to be sound in mind, making informed decision.

Parents and guardians wants the best for their children.

What should be the right motive when discipline is given?

The right motive for disciplining a child should be because of love. Parents wants their children to be good adults when they grow up, learning to be useful in life .

Thus they use discipline to keep them in the right path.

Conclusion

This contest is interesting as it affects almost all in one way or the other.

Discipline is core to an individuals life.
In fact a person who receives no disciplines is an indication that he is hated by everyone.

So when we are disciplined, it simply implies that the person loves and wants the best for us.
