Yes indeed, no matter how much we have, we can never enjoy ourselves if we are ill . Therefore, our health is paramount.
Today, I have decided to bring to our notice the health benefit of a fruit commonly found in our localities. This fruit has numerous benefits but it is often overlooked. It is no other fruit than the "Pawpaw"
BOTANICAL NAME AND HISTORY
Many of us if asked to give the botanical name of this fruit will give the correct answer. However for those who may not know, the botanical name for pawpaw is "Carica papaya". This plant was first domesticated or cultivated in an area now part of the modern day southern Mexico and Central America. Today, the plant is seen in several different countries with tropical climate all over the world.

India is the world's highest producer of this fruit accounting for over 38% of its global production.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF CONSUMING PAWPAW (Carica papaya)
Among the many benefits some of the most amazing benefits of the fruit include its ability to reduce the risk of developing the following conditions:
- Eye disease
- Asthma
- Diabetes
It also improves digestion.
1- Eye disease: some chemical compounds found in pawpaw help to prevent inflammation and other age related eye diseases . One of these compounds known as lycopene helps to protect the retuna - a part if the eye essential for vision - against inflammation and oxidative stress.
2 - Asthma: Antioxidans , fiber and vitamin D ; all found in fruits and vegetables like pawpaw, help the immune system which over responds in asthma patients to function normally thereby reducing the risk of having Asthma.
3- Diabetes: People with type 1 diabetes who consume high fiber diet have lower blood sugar levels.
4- Digestion: Papaya is a fruit high in fiber and water content which helps in bowel movements and prevents constipation.
Carica papaya is a marvelous fruit with wonderful effects. Let us keep on using fruits and vegetables to maintain optimum health.
