Welcome to a new week with a new topic.We shall be looking at Multiplication of three digit numbers by one digit number.

Multiplication of Three Digit Numbers by One Digit Number

In our previous class,I told you that multiplication simply means adding equal groups.It has not changed..For example if I am multiplying 4 by 5,it means adding 4 in five places
(i.e 4×5=4+4+4+4+4).The answer obtained after multiplication is called product.

It is important to note that when performing multiplication,you must start from the right hand side.If in any case the value exceeds 9,we have to write the last digit and carry the first digit over.

Some of these examples will help you to understand and appreciate the topic👇.

Examples

1.)Multiply 121 by 2

Start from the right hand side by multiplying 1 by 2 to get 2.Next multiply 2 by 2 to get 4 and then multiplying 1 by 2 to get 2.So the answer becomes 242.

2.)Multiply 225 by 3.

Start from the right hand side by multiplying 5 by 3 to get 15,but you will write 5 and carry 1 over and then multiplying 2 by 3 to get 6 plus that 1 carried over to get 7 and finally multiply 2 by 3 to get 6..So the answer becomes 225.

3.)Multiply 162 by 5

Start from the right hand side by multiplying 2 by 5 to get 10,but you will write 0 and carry 1 over and then multiplying 6 by 5 to get 30 plus that 1 carried over to get 31, again write 1 and carry 3 over and finally multiply 1 by 5 to get 5 plus that 3 carried over gives 8.So the answer becomes 810.

4.)Find the product of 169 and 3

Start from the right hand side by multiplying 9 by 3 to get 27,but you will write 7 and carry 2 over and then multiplying 6 by 3 to get 18 plus that 2 carried over to get 20, again write 0 and carry 2 over and finally multiply 1 by 3 to get 3 plus that 2 carried over gives 5.So the answer becomes 507.

4.)Multiply 109 and 7
