I can still remember the day I learned about the power of the word "sorry". It was many years ago, but even today I have that lesson in my mind.
In my workplace, I joined a small project with my close friend. While we were working on the project, we had to face a big problem. We both had good ideas. But thinking my idea was better, I pushed away my friend's idea and implemented only my idea. My friend was sad but kept silent.
Days passed, but there was a place where our project failed. It was where I ignored my friend's idea. Because of that, our entire project failed. My friend said nothing. She was not talking with me like before. She didn't share her thoughts with me. It was only then that I realized the reason. But my pride kept me silent.
One evening, when I thought of the past, I understood how I had been rude to my friend. That was not about the project but the friendship we had built for years.
I felt ashamed of myself. I decided to apologize to her.
The next day, I went to meet her and said, "I am really sorry; you are right; I would have listened to you. Then our project would have been a success," my eyes welled with tears.
She looked at me with amazement. Her eyes also welled with tears. She hugged me tightly and said, "Oh, I was waiting for you to say that." In that moment we forgot everything, and the word "sorry" made our connection stronger.
We again worked together, and this time with more love and understanding.
From that day I learned the value of the word "sorry." Even though it was a small word, it had a big value. It has the ability to open hearts, heal wounds, and make connections strong.
If I were to accept her ideas, she would not be sorrowful, and our friendship would also not be damaged. I could have listened to her and respected her ideas. If so, our project also will succeed. If my understanding and kindness were high, we could have kept our friendship strong without using the word 'sorry."
I would be happier if the younger generation understood this. If you made any mistake, don't be ashamed to say sorry, because that word has great value. Therefore, in the future, if you have made any mistake, keep away your pride and be humble to say "sorry." It will teach you to be kind as well as humble.
