Writing under the Description: Connecting the Kids with Their Parents

This is her favorite spot. She can sit here for hours, doing her own thing.

I came to girls' room for I think collecting these folded clothes, and I couldn't resist freezing this moment in my camera. My heart swelled with bittersweet emotions - If only I could stop the time and take it all, standing there - every childhood moment of hers! The greedy me, if only could extend this phase for a few more years. They're growing up so quickly; one is already taller than me before I could even realise!

The description of this community, "connecting the kids with their parents," perfectly captures the emotions I'm about to express. "#connect" is also my favorite hashtag!

These thoughts keep crossing my mind... How am I capable of loving so deeply and completely, especially when it comes to my children? They are the very essence of my existence, they are the three pieces of my heart wandering this world, all exposed and vulnerable. How long will I be able to shield them from harm? Am I even capable of this? May they always be safe and sound from every evil. Ameen. My mother in law says that it's nature, the Almighty that looks after them. We are barely the medium!

Aren't we always busy? Even the stay-at-home mothers. There is always a pile of work waiting for us. And in this chaos, we sometimes tend to overlook the importance of emotionally connecting with our children. Ever played hide and seek? And forgot to find someone who was there all the time but hidden behind some sofa? Don't we also forget to connect with them in the noise of our daily activities, sometimes leaving them hidden in the background. We may feed them and provide for them, but they can still feel lost. They are trying to figure out this world on a daily basis. Sometimes we have to go find them because they are waiting in their hidden spot only to be discovered. And when you finally seek them, they might not shout "You found me!" but their smiles and hugs say it all! You have to trust me on this. Go to their rooms for the random "I love you-s", "what are you upto-s", and "hey, what's up-s". They appreciate it more than you think!

Annual result day of my kids.
Taking a seat on those benches evoked an unexplainable experience.

I say - Do it your way! Whether it's listening to their silly stories and sharing yours with them, or trying a goofy dance in the living room, it's always these teeny tiny moments that make everlasting memories. And also, it's always quality over quantity! Working mothers and parents should never worry about spending less time with their children. The quality of time that you spend with them always supercedes the hours of time with them. Believe me, there is no other way around it.

I keep reminding myself to celebrate their small and big moments, for I may be their hero for the time being, and before I realize, their idols will change! Their urge to boast and flaunt everything in front of me will not be there anymore. Rather, I am experiencing it fading away little as they are growing up. They have a new audience to impress now. Soon they will be ready to leave the nest, and if we want them to keep coming back to us, this is the time to secure this opportunity in their futures. This is the investment for the longer run. You will be their home forever, but to make this happen, connect with them now.

Sometimes I play along with them in their silly moments .You can embrace their goofiness, be a child yourself, and let loose once in a while. Sometimes, they crave playing with the child inside you. My kids would sometimes ask me to tell them about my childhood stories. Their favorite pastime is telling me the hilarious stuff that happened in the school or the stupid memes they've just watched. At times they act them out for me, and I occasionally do the same for them, and they laugh out their hearts in moments like these. Sometimes, even, choking on their own roaring laughters!

I will be writing more under this #connect. I think this tag has found its niche :)
