The new guidelines include key recommendations from scientists released in July, which said that only 6% of the calories men need in a day should come from sugar. Earlier in the guidelines this limit was set at 10%.
The guidelines state that men should not drink more than two glasses of alcohol a day, while the limit for women is one glass.
"We're not recommending a complete ban on alcohol at this time because we need to know a lot more about it now," said Barbara Schneiman, chairing the government committee on guidelines.
Official nutrition guidelines are issued every five years by the US Department of Agriculture and Health and Human Services. In the light of which the Department of Education decides on the food to be provided to the children in the schools.
The recommended diet and nutrition guidelines state that newborns should be exclusively breastfed until the age of six months, and if for some reason this is not possible, they should be given formula milk containing iron. Join in Babies should start getting vitamin D as soon as possible after birth.
After the age of six months, babies should be given breast milk as well as other things, especially things that are likely to cause allergies, such as peanuts. The guidelines state that the benefit of giving children allergy risk products from the very beginning is that as they grow older, they will develop immunity against many types of allergies.
The guidelines state that pregnant women and breastfeeding women should eat at least 8 to 12 ounces of fish per week.
