WHAT IS EDUCATION?
In understanding what education is, it’s important we know how education started (origin) as it will enhance our understanding. Education began in prehistory, as younger ones are being trained on the skills and knowledge which is considered important and vital in the society in which they live by adults. These values, skills, and knowledge was passed from generation to generation through oral imitation and storytelling. With time, culture began to extent their knowledge beyond skills which can be learned through storytelling and imitation and as such, formal education was introduced.
History recorded that schools was first introduced in Egypt at the time of middle kingdom by plato in Athens which happens to be the first institution in Europe. In 330 BCE, library of Alexandra was built which happens to be the successor of Athens, but, following the fall of Rome in CE 476, European civilization suffered collapse in literacy.
After the fall of Rome, education became the responsibility of religious establishment and this became the case throughout the ancient world. Schools later became common in Europe at the end of middle age after the invention of printing with the aim of ensuring that children could read and write. In 15th century, which happens to be the time of Shakespeare’s, schools had become educational system that can be recognize.
Curriculum was gradually developed after the printing press in which subject which were considered very important were taught. In 1600s, library and pencil were introduced in order to enhance teaching and learning activities, and it marked the first example of educational technology, and in 19th century, notebooks, chalk, chalkboard, ink pen and text books were made available to teachers and students in order to improve the students writing and learning skills. During this period till until 20th century, curriculum has been the main focus rather than focusing only on the child and education has been monotonous affair marked by rote learning and memorization.
The 20th century saw changes because it was a key term in education due to the ideas of philosophers like john Dewey which gained ground because he said reflective thinking should be the center of education rather than mare memorization. For example, he argued that curriculum could only work if it is related to the activities that the students will have after finishing school and as such, schools should be concerned with the intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of each students.
John Dewey’s idea appears to be a common sense to many educators nowadays but, they were innovative and progressive at the beginning of the 20th century, and education reformers have formalized and confirmed john Dewey’s ideas, therefore, it has continued to be the bedrock of education today all over the world. Digital technology now has enormous impact on education today since transition from progressive pedagogy and it serve as the second main wave of disruption since digital technology such as computers have changed how students and teachers learn and teach, and with digital technology, education is more accessible as teachers now have more tools to communicate and learners also showcase examples of technology which helps to facilitate learning processes. To cut it shot, digital technology brought us to where we are today, because it brought us to a flipped learning model which students are becoming more active in their own learning.
DEFINATIONS OF EDUCATION
Education is one thing that’s always difficult to define due to the fact that people view education differently around the world, some people view education as mainly classroom exercise while some sees it as life changing experience. Teachers and students also have different perspective towards education, but nevertheless, some educational experts have defined education from different angles. For example, abdulkareem (1990) defined education as the process of bringing up a person according to the persons aptitudes, capabilities, abilities, and interest so that the person can function well in the society.
Other people defined education as a gradual process that brings about positive changes in human behavior and life in general, thereby developing their perspectives, while others defined education as the entire process which a student most undergo to acquire knowledge. Also, education has been defined as the process of facilitating learning or acquisition of skills, morals, habits, and personal development.

In informal education, children learn from their parents by observing or through reading of educational books, while non-formal education is a type of education in which adults learns basic literacy education or skill development. In non-formal education, learning process can be dynamic though, it can also be systematically provided to develop a particular skill in an individual and it involves wide range of activities.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD A CHILD START LEARNING?
Talking about the age at which a child should start learning, its believed that learning begins right from the time a baby is born, moreover, there are even scientific evidence which shows that learning exists in the womb. So, when babies are given birth to, for instance, they differentiate between the sound of the language that they have heard and sound of another language and as such, we can say that they are already seeing, hearing, and making sense of what is going on around them which is part of learning
