So today I'm going to write about some chemicals that have an effect on our health and the environment. So let's get started.

In chemical laboratories, various kinds of acids, potent alkalis, salts of hazardous metals, and different kinds of organic solvents are used. When used excessively in the lab, they somehow find their way into plants and animals as well as the environment. It has long-lasting negative effects. We must be aware of their excessive use in laboratories. When heavy metal ions like Pb2 +, Hg2 +, and Cd2 + enter the body, enzyme activity is lost and poisoning develops. Environmentally harmful materials are used in a variety of heavy industrial factories, including those that produce fertilizer, paper, rayon, leather, and dyeing. How damaging to the environment excessive use of these chemicals is beyond comprehension. The use of these chemicals ought to be restricted and kept to a minimum.
As a result, before establishing these factories, permission from the Department of Environment is required.

Let's examine each chemical's impact one at a time.

1. Hydrochloric acid (HCl)

Response in terms of health: HCI is as poisonous as gas and corrosive as acid. causes tracheal, throat, and mouth inflammation. HCI overdoses can result in death.

Environmental response: HCI acid is a strong acid. It completely ionizes in water and quickly lowers the pH level. Ecosystems of aquatic plants and animals are severely harmed by this.

2. Sulfuric acid (H2SO4)

Response in terms of health: Due to its deadly corrosive, extreme corrosiveness, and severe dehydration, it can infect the eyes, mouth, respiratory system, and skin by causing inflammation.
The lungs are also impacted.

Environmental response: The pH quality of water rapidly declines when it is combined with it. aquatic ecosystem disruption The pH of the soil is lowered by mixing. expands soil microorganism populations. Plants are therefore unable to flourish in that soil.

3. Nitric Acid (HNO3)

Response in terms of health: Due to severe corrosion and oxidation, NO2 gas in HNO3 causes severe respiratory distress, skin inflammation, eye-mouth irritation, and can even be fatal.

Environmental response: To lower the pH level of the water, mix it with some water. Fish farming and other aquatic animal reproduction are hampered. Being corrosive, it mixes with the soil and depletes it of its mineral content.

4. Baking powder (NaOH)

Response in terms of health: a caustic chemical substance. In just 30 seconds, a 10% W/V) aqueous solution of baking soda can make your eyes go blind. It can cause serious infections in the stomach, trachea, and throat if it gets into the mouth in any way.

Environmental response: It combines with water and contaminates it.

5. Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH)

Response in terms of health: Gas with a strong, pungent smell enters with the breath. throat and trachea pain as well as severe respiratory distress. The eye burns, and the eyes turn purple quickly.

Environmental response: It reacts negatively and dissolves in water. Fish and other aquatic animals perish in a matter of minutes. Animals also perish when they consume ammonia-laced water. Plants burn, birds perish, people experience shortness of breath, and sometimes even pass away when NH 3 is released into the atmosphere as a gas.

6. Sodium bi-carbonate (NaHCO3)

Response in terms of health: When it enters the body, the airways become infected and cause shortness of breath.
Falling objects can hit the skin or eyes and cause injuries.

Environmental response: By combining with water, it raises the pH level of the water destroys soil-based microorganisms (interferes with the decomposition of soil minerals).

7. Chloroform (CHCl3)

Response in terms of health: Animals' central nervous systems suffer serious harm as a result. Severe respiratory infections can cause damage to the lungs and airways. If the lungs are exposed to too much, death is unavoidable.

Environmental response: It dissolves in water and kills any microorganisms that are present.

CONCLUSION

We should be very cautious while using chemicals. Although certain chemicals are less effective than others, you should use caution with all chemicals. Use chemistry to lead a well-managed life, but don't misuse your understanding of it.
