Set in the 7th re-created world of Orbis, Diche, the Goddess of Life, once again summoned all of her waning power in order to create the Guardians and the Heir of the Covenant. For the sake of maintaining peace, the Heir of the Covenant has been charged with the duty of defending the world from the Archdemon, who, once again, wishes to destroy the world.
Epic Seven is an RPG game developed and published by South Korea-based company, Smilegate Megaport.
The game has seen tremendous growth ever since its inception on July 31st, 2018, according to many players. When I first started playing in July 2019, the game lacked many important features that we would normally take for granted - namely, an in-depth tutorial. Since then, various features have been implemented to make the game “new player friendly,” especially for those who were not familiar with the game or its mechanics.
For those who are not familiar with Epic Seven, the game belongs to the same genre as the popular mobile game by Com2Us, "Summoner's War," where they both share a similar style of gameplay and capsule-toy vending machine (gacha) mechanics to summon heroes/characters.
In addition to buffs, debuffs, and healing skills, each character is categorized into an element, meaning they also have strengths and weaknesses against one another - namely:
Fire | Strong: Earth | Weak: Water
Earth | Strong: Water | Weak: Fire
Water | Strong: Fire | Weak: Earth
Dark | Strong: Light | Weak: Light
Light | Strong: Dark | Weak: Dark
All characters require gear (helm, armor, boots, weapon, ring, necklace) in order to deal high amounts of damage, which can either be gained through playing the Story, free from Smilegate Megaport / GM Gifts, or crafted from Materials that are gained through slaying boss monsters; specifically:
- Wyvern | Critical Set (Critical Hit Chance 12%) | Hit Set (Effectiveness 20%) | Speed Set (Speed 25%)
- Golem | Attack Set (Attack 35%) | Health Set (Health 15%) | Defense Set (Defense 15%)
- Banshee | Resist Set (Effect Resistance 20%) | Destruction Set (Critical Hit Damage 40%) | Lifesteal Set (Absorbs 20% of damage dealt as Health | Counter Set ( 20% chance to Counterattack when attacked)
- Azimanak | Unity Set ( 4% chance to trigger a dual attack) | Immunity Set (Grants caster immunity for 1 turn at the start of a battle) | Rage Set ( 30% damage dealt to debuffed targets)
With that being said, here are some Pros and Cons that I find important when deciding whether or not to invest / try out Epic Seven:
Pros
- Free-to-Play is possible (with a lot of patience)
- You get 1 Free Summon per Day (sometimes there will be events where you can Summon 10 Times for Free)
- Game has an “auto-play” feature that you can activate if you want to leave the game running in the background
- Expansive game with new content coming out each month
Cons
- Costs tremendous amounts of money if you’re attempting to summon a 5-star character
- Requires a lot of time and patience in order to collect armors and weapons, and crafting materials
- Learning curve becomes steeper once finished Episode 1
