Flashback is a pretty classic game of an old generation, with some pretty weird controls for its time, but they were quite innovative, besides having a pretty good graphic aspect for those years, so it is not uncommon to find other games that wanted to "copy" this style, some of these games gave good results, but others were a total disaster. The videogame I will talk about today is one of those games whose result was quite decent, turning out to be an entertaining title with a clear and obvious inspiration in Flashback.
The story of this game is a bit convoluted, as we are introduced to Monobe, the protagonist of the game and the playable character, which has had a concern since very young, which is to discover the origin of his people and its inhabitants and their own origin, for it has the help of the elder of his people, which gives him some highly technological artifacts: a protective armor and a bracelet that emanates a light energy that will allow you to perform certain actions during your adventure. Monobe embarks on this adventure of discovery and what he discovers is something totally impressive, as it turns out that the place where they live is not a planet, but a spaceship which was sent from planet Earth many years ago to colonize another planet. But many things happened along the way, and this ship was "stranded" in the orbit of the planet they were to colonize for hundreds of years. A rather strange story, but still, it is interesting to discover and explore.
Generations Lost not only has similarities in Flashback in its playable aspect, but also in the graphical aspect is quite similar, although it does not reach the graphical level of its inspiration, it is still a game that in terms of aesthetics, art and graphics, is quite good and remarkable. The design of our character is very well and with a relatively large size for a game of this style, also has enough details in its design to make it visually pleasing.
It has a set of great animations, very fluid and that gives it a very successful development in the scenario for a game inspired by Flashback, Also, the design of the enemies that we will find throughout this adventure of discovery, also have very well worked and implemented designs in each place we go to explore. Generations Lost has visual effects such as lighting and certain particles that visually decorate the scenarios very well and gives visual depth to situations and specific moments of the adventure. This game is very remarkable and visually outstanding graphically.
With a soundtrack composed "to the measure", Generations Lost manages to transmit with its different melodies what the situation deserves, from moments of action, suspense or moments where the situation is a little calmer, are the type of music that we will find in this adventure. Melodies that together with the scenery manage to create a suitable atmosphere to achieve to some extent, an immersion to this mysterious place where our protagonist is and likewise, encourage in moments where there is action, as well as in moments where they are simply there in a "decorative" way. Similarly, the sound effects are well made and implemented, being these sound effects necessary to add more auditory depth to the situation in which the protagonist finds himself.
Generations Lost is a platform and exploration game, with certain elements of action, but especially a game where exploring and searching to find something in particular, from the exit or activate something that helps us to unlock a path and use our tools to overcome obstacles or use the jumping ability of our character to get from one point to another, are the actions that we will perform most in this adventure.
With a character movement very similar to that seen in the game Flashback, we will move our character through a series of scenarios with enemies to defeat, objects and exits to find and platforms on which we must jump nimbly to move between the stage. Monobe, our protagonist, can logically jump on the platforms and can also hit the enemies on screen, but also has a bracelet that emits a kind of energy, which allows it to be deceived from certain platforms, so it can move around the stage with greater agility and speed.
Due to the age of this game, we must admit that perhaps the character's movement is a little slow due to the current standards with respect to video games, you can tell that it is an old game even though I personally consider that it is not bad, but I can understand that many people today consider it a game too archaic and that it aged badly, especially how "slow" our character moves around the stage, although this is compensated by the ability of the bracelet that allows you to move and hook on platforms and thus move faster between scenarios.
Generations Lost, I consider it a good game, a good inspiration of the classic Flashback and a game that in spite of that maintains its own charisma, since it has enough elements so that it is not considered a "copy game", although its inspiration is very evident.
