The current retro market that video games are experiencing

Since the creation of video games in the late 60's, there have been many things that have impressed people, interesting peripherals, powerful consoles, but there is something that has marked multiple generations over the years and these have been games that have been developed for different entertainment systems.

In a progressive way and thanks to technology, video games were taking a path full of varieties that no one could imagine. Those who played with a Magnavox Odyssey, which was the first video game console that used different templates on a TV to form a game concept, never thought about what that industry would become.

They were different times when video games were at the top, those years were called "golden years" and it is precisely because of the innovations and impressive games that were launched to the market, one of them was between 1979 and 1982 with the Atari 2600 and the different Arcade machines which were the main entertainment centers in multiple countries.

But where videogames really had a relevant role was at the end of the 80s, the war between Nintendo and Sega was one of the most intense battles to see who was the best company, this benefited all the users a lot because we constantly saw innovations.

In the 8, 16, 32 and 64 bits were developed games that would leave an indelible mark, so much that almost no video game would surpass in quality and innovation the foundations formed in those years, in addition, many of those creations served as an example to develop video games that we know today, for example, Street Fighter 2.

Fans and communities would form over time, people who closely follow the events, news, and news of their favorite companies and video games. At this point the snowball would start, everything related to this universe would become bigger and bigger.

But there is something that is happening right now, many companies are offering game consoles or video games from the past, but with an updated design, for some reason what we know as retro games are becoming more popular in old and new players.

For example, Nintendo would release a system called the Nintendo Classic Mini in 2016, which was a small version of their system from the 1980s that took you back to the gameplay of those years with its controller. It automatically became a success because it was a product that many people felt was a gamer.

The same thing was done with the Super Nintendo a year later, SONY seeing everything that was happening with retro fashion would also launch the mini version of the first PlayStation, however, this console for different reasons didn't have the same impact as the competition's consoles.

But this has not only happened in game consoles, it can also be seen in the development of video games, in the last few years there have been multiple developments of remakes, that is, many companies are redeveloping and improving in different aspects games of yesteryear that had a great impact.

This is something that companies didn't do before, I remember there was a moment when fans were asking Capcom to remake Resident Evil 2, they never showed any interest in doing this. That's how some fans of the saga decided to do it on their own, by showing the huge community that was being formed Capcom would take the power of such a remake and launch it officially.

Other companies such as Activision have also been involved in videogame remakes, at the time of launching Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy it was announced that other games from the franchise would receive their respective remakes, in addition, they also announced the revival of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater saga, this indicates that there is an avalanche of retro games with renewed graphics.

Nintendo has also realized this technique with certain games of its franchise, the well-known Metroid II: Return of Samus released in 1991 for the Game Boy had its remake in 2017, a video game that many forgot, but at the moment of seeing it with a renewed aspect it would call the attention of its community.

At the moment this kind of videogame retrospective is working, there are many gamers who are excited to see their favorite games from the past with a totally renewed look, however, there is a risk that this will have its consequences, there may come a point where we have no more innovations for a while and this becomes a market for remakes.

However, the companies are doing an excellent job with the videogames they have released, we players have no choice but to see how all these events evolve, I just hope they don't damage how beautiful the videogames of those years were.

I don't know, I think retrogaming has been big for a long, long time. The first time I noticed was in the mid 1990s. That's when MAME and other emulators first came along. I remember auctions hosted via newsgroups for vintage games for the Atari 2600, Atari 8-bit computers, Commodore 64, etc. before eBay was even around. I suppose retrogaming is becoming more mainstream all the time but it was a subculture (for lack of a better word) that started decades ago.

That's right, it's something that has been around for several years now, but lately it's gaining much, much more strength, especially in video game and console development companies.
