New Original 3D Engine in Development for Sega Dreamcast

Who ever thought that we would see support from the gaming community for the Sega Dreamcast 23 years after Sega pulled the plug on it? Not me. While I knew back in 2001 that the Dreamcast was open to fans to do things with, a lot of the stuff we are seeing today was not even a dream back then. Take this 3D game engine that is in development for instance. A freaking game engine for the Dreamcast – with Blender support to boot.

Sega’s Last Console Was a Gift To Fans

I know what has allowed Dreamcast to be supported as it has been also potentially the biggest reason for its demise. That openness in the design has allowed fans to show so much love and support for Sega’s final console that it is officially mind boggling at this point.

Fans have reacted in kind to this openness too.

Take this 3D game engine, called Spiral, for instance.

Built in Your Dreams

I know, corny subheader there but it fits. This seriously comes off as a dream, or something we may have dreamed about.

Spiral already has light sourcing, dynamic and static, and even can work with indie game standard software like Blender to create assets.

The frame rate is hovering around 60 frames per second in the demos too.

Um, what else could we ask for? This is simply madness.

Seriously, I would consider buying this if they sold it like NESMaker does their game creation software (just please make it more accessible if you go that route).

Check out this scene from Silent Hill 3, or how easy it is to export from Blender to Spiral and run on your Dreamcast. Simply mind boggling.

Head over to YouTube and show MigDps some support. They are creating miracles over there.
