Shadow Gangs Hits Kickstarter Plans for Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation 5 in the Works
The Sega Dreamcast may dead and gone but fans keep it alive. Same thing could be said for Shinobi by Sega, a title forgotten about in the 32-Bit era (around 1995/1996). Again, fans are keeping the spirit of Shinobi alive and well. One such title is Shadow Gangs, currently on Kickstarter with just over a week to go. They are still just short of their funding goal though. What they have created so far, it would be a shame to see not completed. Shadow Gangs is not just headed to the Sega Dreamcast either, plans are in place for PlayStation 4/5 ports. There is even a demo for the Sega Dreamcast version on their page.
Shadow Gangs is old school
The Shadow Force have kidnapped your family and you must get them back. You play Dan, a ninja master, and must traverse 10 levels and defeat 6 bosses. It is not going to be easy by any means. The levels are 2D side scrolling affairs with some being quite expansive. Not quite Metroidvania size challenges but still larger than usual. Not all are simply run to the right and be done.
The enemies are varied people. The bosses are huge as well. There is even a bonus level that resembles the one in Shinobi that had you throwing ninja stars as ninjas.
Previous and future versions
Shadow Gangs hit the Nintendo Switch in January 2021, Steam platform in April 2020, and Xbox One in October 2020. Plans are in place to bring the game to the Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 if this Kickstarter is successful.
If you are a fan of Shinobi, then you owe it to yourself to either back this Kickstarter or grab Shadow Gangs on one of the other platforms. It is not often that we get old school homages like this.
