The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has made 2020 a very different year and different industries have been impacted. One of the ones that was hit hard was the cinema, as security measures have forced several releases to be delayed. Because of this, many joked that it was the year for Sonic: The Movie to win the Academy Awards, but it seems that dream died.
What we are referring to is that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is in charge of the Oscar Awards, announced that the 2021 edition of its award ceremony will be delayed.
Originally, the Oscars were planned to take place in February 2021, but now they will be held on April 25, 2021. On the other hand, it was announced that films released between January 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021 may participate.
This means that Sonic: The Movie will have a great competition to win some Oscars. So, it won't be what many of us expected: that the blue hedgehog ribbon would win some award for being one of the few releases before the pandemic.
