Do you have animal husbandry in your country? What kind of animals are seen to be more?

Animal Husbandry

Raising some animals in Bangladesh has always been a tradition and part of the village farming. Lots of rural families have animals, not just to eat but to make money. Here farmers are raising cows, chickens, ducks, goats and sheep. Cows and goats are common but chickens and ducks are even more prevalent.

As Bangladesh is mostly a poverty stricken country, people mostly prefer to raise cows, chickens and goats as these animals provide food and money. Milk and meat are provided by cows, eggs and meat by chickens to meet this demand. Cows are more profitable than chickens or goats.

Which animal is more profitable to raise? Give your reasoning.

In Bangladesh the most profitable is raising cows. Milk producing cows can supply nutritious milk every day and sell it every day in the local market. Milking can a long term business cause milk demand is stable our country. Besides milk, there are also cows that are raised for meat. Especially during Eid-ul Adha when beef becomes more popular.

Special cow breeds such as Holstein provide a larger amount of milk, thereby making them even more profit making kind of cows for farmers. As they age, these breeds can make more milk. Though chickens provide both eggs and meat, their life is shorter than others so it may mean lower profit.

What methods will you adopt to be profitable in animal husbandry?

Some steps can be taken by the farmers to make animal farming profitable. First, the breeds to choose are very important. Profitable cows also produce more milk. Using good breeds of chickens that lay more eggs or stay healthier will be beneficial. Second, animals need to stay healthy. To be disease free, animals should be vaccinated and include health checks regularly. If animals get sick, it will affect the business. Third, good food. Animals require oilcake, bran, grains, grass and nutritious food. It keeps them healthy and raises production.

The last way is selling animals at the right time. For example, cows, goats sell better during Eid-ul-Adha, religious festivals or harvest seasons. It is a good idea to sell animals when the demand is high.

How do you think animal housing should be?

Animal housing is important for the health and productivity of animals. They need enough space to move freely and to stay healthy. The space for cattle, goats, and cattle should be different. Good airflow is required for fresh air to flow in and germ to flow out. It is important to keep temperature control, in order to protect animals against cold or hot weather. Keeping animals in good health means that they have cool places in the summer and warm areas in winter.

Animals are also required to have enough food and water. So each animal gets enough to eat and drink, these will help for the animal to grow well. One last thing is we need to keep the shelter clean. Cleaning regularly helps prevent diseases and also keeps animals healthy.
