Hello, friends welcome to my post in which I have discussed "Protected animals in my country" as part of my participation in this 👉contest

In Nigeria, we have diverse wildlife, but many species are threatened or endangered due to poaching, illegal wildlife trade, and habitual destruction. Anyway, I have once written about some of the protected animals in Nigeria and today, I am here to share some again with you.

The population status of this animal has been reduced due to habitat loss and poaching. Based on habitat and environmental threats they are killed for their tusks, and fueling the illegal trade of ivory. Agricultural expansion has also destroyed their natural habitats.

Legal Protection: They are protected by the Endangered Species Act of Nigeria (1985) which is an agency that protects elephants from trade and hunting also the national environmental regulations help to prohibit illegal logging and habitat destruction of elephants.

Name: Pangolin

The population status of the animal is critically endangered as they are the most trafficked animal in the country. As for habitat and environmental threats, meat is used in traditional medicine and poaching for scales. Also as for deforestation, there is a loss of habitat because of logging and agriculture.

Legal Protection:
These animals are protected by Nigeria Endangered Species Act (1995) which prohibits trade and hunting. Also, there is a custom law that has been made to seize any illegal pangolin trade shipments in the country.

Name: West African Manatee

Legal Protection:
The Endangered Species Act of Nigeria (1985) is the body that protects them from hunting and trade. Also, we have the ban on international trade and the Nigeria wetlands under the international agreements that protect them.
