Esteem greetings lovely members of this amazing community. I am here with my entry for week 4 of the Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 4. Today, i shall be writing on a topic centered around talent and how they are discovered. I'll like to invite @wase1234, @shamie, @adriancabrera, @simonnwigwe, @yolvijrm, @inspiracion, @preye2, @tangwe-rene, and @echamroland to come partake in this contest.
Name of the bread and its ingredients that characterize it and make it delicious for you. |
---|
The bread i shall be talking of is one whose recipe is older than me. The name of this bread is Kumba Bread. Till date, i do not know if this was just a local name allocated to it or it actually was given this name which it is commonly known throughout the country till date. Why i say this is because the name "Kumba" (w3w) is a city in my country Cameroon. However i was told two stories that could well sensibly explain why this bread is called what it's called till date.
Story 1
The bread was widely named/called Kumba Bread because it was first created and introduced/established in the city of Kumba. It became the city's number 1 demand with respect to bread, and that was why it quickly gained the famous name it has till date.
Story 2
The bread was widely named/called Kumba Bread because after its creation, it was not too popular, until when it became the number 1 bread demand at the famous Kumba motor park. Since this said park was populated since the days of old, it quickly adopted the name which it has till date, for easy recognition.
What baffles me so much is the fact that, despite the fact that stories exist to explain why the bread has the name it has, i have never been told an original name which later changed into the name we know and love today.
For its ingredients, i would honestly say that i do not know the exact ingredients because we most often just buy it from retailed delivery bikers who deal directly with the manufacturers. If i am to list some ingredients, it would be something general and based on assumptions. I even trued to ask the delivery personnel today upon buying, but he didn't have a clue 😪.
For Nigerians, a close similarity can be seen with their famous Agege Bread, although our production of Kumba Bread for commercial use is cheaper compared to Agege Bread, due to a drop in quality.
I shall now list the ingredients used, however i do not know the procedure of production via mixture.
Ingredients:
- Flour (All-Purpose or Bread Flour)
- Yeast
- Salt
- Nutmeg
- Dry milk
- Vegetable oil
Why do you like this bread? |
---|
I like this bread because of its unique characteristics. It is not too sweet, and not completely tasteless. It is somewhat hard on the outer layer compared to its inner content. Its cost is quite affordable when compared with that of others of similar kind. It is the prefect substitute for a sandwich bread, all you need do is evenly slit it in square pieces that can be used to for multiple purposes.

It is so presentable on the table during breakfast seatings. Amongst all these reasons, i'd like to also point out that i was familiarized with this bread from a very tender age, as such it has been around before i was born, and it still lives on till date 🤓. It is known throughout my entire country, although i can't say for sure if they call it the same name all throughout the different regions since we speak two official languages (English and French).
What is its preparation cost? Or its price in the bakery where you bought it?(Steem) |
---|
Like i said earlier, i do not actually know its production process, and as such it would be difficult to estimate its cost of production. So, i shall go with the cost price upon buying. My mum was the one who bought this bread for the small retailed shop she has. A loaf of this bread used to cost 250 FCFA (~1.75 STEEM) while we sell to consumers at 300 FCFA (~2.1 STEEM), but inflation on prices (such as prices on flour and oil) has caused the supplier to take it up to 300 FCFA (~2.1 STEEM) while we sell to consumers at 400 FCFA (~2.8 STEEM). To eliminate the issue of acquiring losses, we sell this bread only in halves (equal haves) or as a whole, and nothing lesser.
The delivery personnel moves from from 1 retail ship to the other, selling his item until his bread box is completely empty, then he goes back to his supplier for a refill. On days that they fail to make a delivery in my community, my mum goes and get substitutes from nearby bakeries.
To which Steemit user would you give this Bread that you like, and why? |

If i were allowed to choose more than 1 steemian to share this beautiful gift with, i'd still have a seemingly endless list. As such, i'd select a steemian who i'm fond of, and lives quite far from my location 😎.
If i were to share this gift with a steemit user, it would be @liasteem. I think of her as reliable and selfless. Don't get me wrong, i have a list of steemians who meet this description 100% both near and far away, however @liasteem was the name that came rushing in, along side thee amazing @patjewell, so i selected by order of alphabet 🤓. It amazes me how the ladies are the ones that i've gotten fond of, it still keeps me wondering 😂😂.
I would so much love to give this gift to them in person because i see this opportunity as a gesture too. If i was to chose within my locality or neighbouring countries, i might not finish this entry on time 😃. I take this opportunity to celebrate these ladies 🍞🍞🍞.
Steem convertion was made on the bases that its value is $0.22 as of the time of post creation.
Terimakasih sudah memperkenalkan kumba bread yang berasal dari negara mu, postingan yang informatif. Good luck for the contest..

That bread looks like a 700+g and 2.8 Steem seems reasonable for that size of the bread.
In Sri Lanka, we too have the exact same selling procedure but in Tuk tuks with Beethoven music. It has become famous with foreign tourists because they have no idea why Sri Lankans play Beethoven so loud early in the morning 😂 Maybe you can introduce this to your sellers as well.

Choon paan translates to "Cheerful bread"
