Greetings, everyone!
Today, I'm excited to share how we celebrate the joyous festival of Eid, why it holds such significance, and how it fills our lives with happiness and joy. Let me take you through the essence of Eid and the traditions that make it so special. What is Eid?
Eid-ul-Fitr, known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is celebrated after a month of fasting called Ramadan, marking the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. We eagerly wait for this month every year, and here’s why it’s so important.
During Ramadan, we fast from sunrise to sunset, seeking blessings from God. In return, God gifts us with Eid, a celebration of the blessings received during Ramadan. It’s a time to thank Allah for the strength and patience shown during the holy month and to seek forgiveness and blessings for the future.
How We Celebrate Eid
Now, let’s dive into how we celebrate Eid and how it brings immense happiness and joy to our lives.
Chand Raat
The night before Eid, known as Chand Raat, is filled with excitement and preparation. We thoroughly clean our homes, prepare our new clothes, and pamper ourselves with skin care and hair care. My favorite part is applying henna to others who have appointed me for it.
Too much tired but henna is love❤️
Eid Day
On the day of Eid, we wake up early, and all the men go for the Eid prayer. Meanwhile, we prepare something sweet and freshen up. Getting ready for Eid means we are all set to receive Eidi, the gift of Eid.
Didn't make it but ordered some of my favorite brownies❤️
What is Eidi?
Eidi is a monetary gift given by elders to the younger ones. It can vary from person to person, with some giving 1000 PKR, others 500 PKR, or even more. In my home, my father gives me Eidi, and there's always a family dinner at my uncle's house on the third day of Eid where everyone gathers, and I receive more Eidi from the entire family.
Family Gatherings
During the first two days of Eid, we visited my mother’s side of the family, where I received love and Eidi from everyone. However, I eagerly wait for the third day when we gather at my father's family home. My father comes from a large family with ten siblings, so there are many cousins of all ages, making it a fun and lively gathering.
As I am the youngest in the family, I get the most Eidi. But my father has to give Eidi to all the younger ones, which makes it quite an exciting event. The first two days are spent visiting my maternal side, where I am surrounded by cousins much younger than me, so I often find myself looking forward to the third day when we visit my paternal side, which has cousins closer to my age.
Reconnecting and Joy
The most beautiful aspect of Eid is that it brings people together. Even if there have been misunderstandings or distance, Eid provides a chance for reconciliation, spreading love and joy.
After everyone has gathered, we start taking pictures, giving and receiving Eidi, and sharing so much love. The thing I love most about Eid is that it brings people closer. If anyone has had misunderstandings or stopped seeing each other, this festival helps clear the air and rebuild relationships.
I have a lot of pictures of our family and myself too but they all are without hijab so I can't share those
Eid is a celebration filled with love, laughter, delicious food, and the joy of giving and receiving Eidi. It’s a time to create cherished memories with family and friends, making it a festival that brings immense happiness into our lives.
