Greetings to everyone in the community, I hope the new week is going smoothly?...ok, so I'll be talking about the food ingredients and recipes on how it is prepared. It's going to be one of them and Which is the Nigerian Afang soup.

The Nigerian afang soup is one of the popular delicacies and a very delicious dish. It is a native dish mostly eaten in the Southern part of Nigeria.

People have their different ways of preparing the Afang soup, maybe based on how they were taught or how they choose to cook to their own taste, but at the end of the day nothing changes it's still Afang soup you'd see and eat.

I'm going to show y'all how I prepare mine in an easy way and the popular method, all you need to prepare this dish is just your ingredients, pot and a cooker.

INGREDIENTS

  • Afang leaves
  • Fresh water leaves
  • Meat(goat or cow)
  • Onions
  • Maggi seasoning
  • Smoked or fresh fish
  • Crayfish
  • Red palm oil
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • And water

PREPARING THE AFANG LEAVES

  1. Cut the leaves into spiny shapes.

  2. Soak the leaves with hot water in a bowl for them to soften a bit for about 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Wash the leaves and and change the water. Use your hands to wash them thoroughly as you add clean water.

  4. Dry the leaves to remove all the moist and water content in it.

  5. After drying them, pound to smoothness or grind with a grinding machine to be easier and faster.

STEAM THE MEAT AND FISH

Note, before steaming the meat and fish, you must have chopped your onions, pepper, and fresh water leaves. So let's continue,

  1. Add the meat, fish, salt, pepper, maggi and some chopped onions in a pot. Set the pot on the cooker and stir.
  2. ensure that the the ingredients are well mixed. The water from the meat and fish will help steam for a while.
  3. Then add some water and cook until the meat is soft a bit.

FINISHING AND PREPARING THE WHOLE SOUP

  1. Mix the steamed meat, fish and ingredients in a different pot, add pepper, crayfish, palm oil, salt and whatever seasonings you may wish to add. Taste the mixture until it's at your desired taste.
  2. Add the fresh water leaves that was chopped to the soup and stir.
  3. Then finally, add the grounded Afang leaves the the soup and stir thoroughly, till the ingredients blends everywhere.
  4. Allow the soup to cook for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the pot of soup from the cooker and serve hot.
You can decide to eat the soup with either garri, fufu or semovita depending on how you like it.
    Thank you!
