"Alu" is a Bengali word meaning potato. During the food shortage during World War II, the local people of Khagrachari subsisted on potatoes from this mountain. Since then, the mountain has been known as Alutila. There are still plenty of potatoes available here. It is known to the locals as Matai Hakad or the cave of the Gods.

We collected tickets around noon and went to visit the cave. There are two century-old banyan trees at the entrance. At that time, the number of tourists was less. To enter the cave, we had to go down many stairs. After going down about 270 steps, it is located at the foot of the mountain. After going down the stairs, we see another banyan tree. This one is also very old.

Entrance of the Cave

This is the entrance of this natural cave. After going to the entrance of the cave, I saw that the cave was very dark and cold. As I said before, there is water flowing through it, which you can see in the picture. Also, the places that look like soil are actually stones. Since no sunlight enters inside, you have to use a flambeau to enter inside. However, I did not go inside with a flambeau. Instead of a flambeau, I used a mobile torch. It is a cave and the smoke from the flamebeau reduces the amount of oxygen inside. It doesn't allow enough oxygen to get in so I recommend not using flamebeau.

Inside of the Cave

It was very quiet inside the cave. I was quite scared. The water flowing inside was cold. Even though I entered with my shoes on, there was a possibility of slipping as there was no grip on the shoes, so I was holding my shoes in my hand. The quiet environment inside was much more adventurous. There was a group behind us, they were talking to us. I lost my way in the middle of the cave, but later, with the instructions of the group behind me, I was able to move forward correctly. There was a low height in one part of the cave, so we had to keep our heads down as we moved forward.

End of the Cave

After spending 10-15 minutes inside the cave, I felt happy to see the sunlight. All my fears disappeared in the light of day. I can't believe I was inside the cave for such a long time. It was thrilling.

What I Ate

1000111008.jpg1000111090.jpg

We had bought some singara from a local shop before entering the cave, and after climbing many stairs to enter the cave, I was tired. So I drank green coconut water. It made me energetic instantly. Below, I am showing these local prices converted to Steem prices and USD prices. There is no heavy food facility for tourists here, but you can buy some instant food and eat it. For heavy food, you will have to go to a restaurant a short distance from here. If you want, you can bring food from home and eat it here.

Historical Review Of This Place

1000111312.jpg

1000111294.jpg

The cave is a sacred place for the local community. Since it is a natural place, they believe that it is a blessing from their gods. It is also said that in ancient times, locals used to take shelter in the place during various natural disasters. It was undiscovered even during the British period. It is a very important place in the Bangladesh Liberation War. Many say that many people were hiding in this place during the 1971 war.

⚠️Caution From My Experience

  • 1 . Do not enter the cave with children. It is very dark inside so children can get scared. Apart from that, it is quite difficult to cross the cave with children.
  • 2 . Take each step carefully because some parts are slippery, and some parts have water. Some parts inside are short in length so we have to move low.
  • 3 . Do not enter the cave with a flambeau. Instead, carry a torch.
  • 4 . Avoid scratching the stone or cave walls. I have seen many people carving their names on the stone.
  • 5 . Do not cause annoyance to other tourists by making loud noises inside.
  • 6 . Do not spend extra time taking pictures or videos.

💡Tips from my experience

  • Use shoes with good grip.
  • Keep your necessary things carefully.
  • Enter the cave in the morning because the crowd is comparatively less at this time.
  • Do not enter the cave with heavy bags.
  • Stand in a good spot to take selfies inside and stay with your group members at all times
  • If you enter in the afternoon, come out before dusk.

I really enjoyed visiting the place. Those who love adventure and thrill should definitely visit here. Personally, I would give this place a review of 9.8 out of 10. As you can see from my rating, it is a really nice place. Also, I saw some beautiful wild flowers here for the first time that I am not familiar with. In winter, I saw Kashful. I saw distant mountains. It was a complete trip where I explored the mysterious places of nature.
