"eukaryos", a piece by meltinginlava, also known as OBN.

according to biology, eukaryotes are one of the three major domains of living things on our planet. the term derives from the Greek eu, meaning "good", and karyon, meaning "kernel". Eukaryotes include everything from animal, plants, and fungi, to algae.

but aren't algae plants?, you ask. they are in the plant kingdom, but they don't quite fit the strict definition of plants. in fact, no definition of algae is widely accepted. algae is so fluid and adaptable, even science can't pin it down.

no wonder algae is so tied to our survival on this planet itself. it grows our food, it is our food, it's found in personal protective equipment. it treats our sewage and dyes our clothes without introducing harmful toxins into our environment. and it may save the world; scientists estimate energy from algae will be more affordable than fossil fuels within 5 years.

all this to say, this painting celebrates life, the circle and the cycle of it. as its name suggests, its design would make a great cover or wrap for your next pillow, phone case, piece of furniture, or whatever you'd like. let's connect and share in the beauty of the Earth together.
