When he saw the people of Makkah and the pilgrims suffering from water problems and difficulties, he was deeply saddened. So, by ordering a grand canal to be dug at his own expense, he performed such an exemplary feat that the world will remember forever.
Queen Zubaydah had a hundred maidservants who memorized the Holy Quran and used to recite the Holy Quran all the time. The sound of recitation came from his palace like the buzzing of bees.
Queen Zubaydah saw with her own eyes the problems and difficulties faced by the pilgrims and the people of Makkah due to the lack of water, so she decided to build a canal in Makkah. Now when the plan of digging the canal came up, expert engineers were called from different areas. A program was made to draw out a canal from "Jabal Tad" in Wadi Hunain, 35 km north-east of Makkah.
Seventeen lakh (17,00,000) dinars were spent on this great project.
When the planning of the Zubaydah canal began, the engineer who managed the project came and said: The work you have ordered requires a lot of expenses, because for its completion, huge mountains will have to be cut, rocks will have to be broken, the difficulties of the lowlands will have to be dealt with, hundreds of laborers will have to work day and night. Then the project can be completed by going somewhere.
Hearing this, Queen Zubaydah said to the chief engineer: Start this work, even if one blow of the ax costs one dinar.
Thus, when the canal project reached completion, the administrators and overseers presented the details of the expenditure to the queen. of me on the Day of Resurrection.
