Today I'll be telling you about why beans gives you gas and some simple ways to solve this problem.
It is the job of your digestive system to break down the foods you take in, allowing the nutrients to cross over into the different body systems and organs to use as fuel. Each organ breaks these foods down differently. For example ;the mouth chews it up into smaller parts and the stomach uses enzymes and acids to further break it down. The food then goes to the small intestine where most of the nutrients that come from our food (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) gets absorbed into the blood stream by a process called diffusion. What is left is then passed into the large intestine, whose main job is the absorption of water that remains in the indigestible residue of food. Another role of the massive ( large) intestine is additionally to interupt down polysaccharides (fiber) that gets passed into it
One type of fiber prevalent in beans oligosaccharides. Oligosaccharides are basically sugar molecules that are made up of several different types of monosaccharides (usually 2-10)to form a polymer. An enzyme that would break this molecules down does not exist anywhere in the human body. Therefore when they pass into the large intestine, they serve as food for the microbes present. When the microbes are processing these substances they usually release several different types of gases mainly ;hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide although, these gases are stench free. Your fetid flatulence affliction is from another source. Specifically, about ⅓ of the microbes end up producing methane as a result of breaking down these sugars. Once methane builds up to the point, it begins to produce pressure on your Asus and that's when the smelly magic happens. Microbes breaking down these otherwise indigestible substances is important for our health as one of the byproducts of this is the production of antibodies that helps you fight of certain types of infections. The down side is that that the gaseous side effect of these bacterial process tends to clear rooms.
Ways to reduce Gas in beans
One of the best way to reduce gas in beans is by soaking. Soaking can be done for 12 hours to rinse off excess sugar. You can also rinse the beans, put it in a pot, and add 3cups of water for every 1 cup of beans. Boil for 2-3 minutes . Remove the pot from heat, cover it and let stand for one hour. Replace the water with a fresh water and boil.
Aother way is by adding turmeric, hemeric and cumin while cooking the beans. You can also add 1 teaspoon of baking soda or½ teaspoon of Apple cider venigar.
Woow thank you sharing your knowledge with us I never know that soaking beans reduces gas. I have really learned from your article.
