Andrea Mantegna, Lamentation over the Dead Christ, c. 1483, Brera Pinacoteca
Perspective was discovered not long before, and it was mostly used to represent architecture. Nobody tried to show a man like this, let alone a dead man. Is it possible to feel today the same emotion that people who saw it when it was painted felt? And there are all these things we don't notice in this picture because we are so completely overwhelmed by the perspective.
