Thread-waisted Wasp (Prionyx)

Today I have macro images that I want to display here. These photos were taken by me this afternoon near a reservoir in my town.

It is the thread-waisted wasp in the genus Prionyx, belonging to the family Sphecidae. The genus Prionyx is not only known as insect pollinators, they are also predators because of their behavior. They are known to like to hunt and feed on grasshoppers. However, this behavior is only present in females.

Before the female wasp lays eggs, she will look for a grasshopper. She paralyzes the grasshopper with her deadly sting. She will bury her prey in a burrow that has been excavated, lay eggs on her prey's body, and then seal the burrow.

The grasshopper carcass she prepared for her eggs. When they have developed, they will feed on the grasshopper until they mature, then they become pupates.
