Bad at math or student without support?

When I was a kid I wasn't good at math. I had too many scoldings and humiliations with the teachers. But as an adult I understood that this situation was due more than anything to the lack of support outside of school and also to the lack of initiative in wanting to learn and overcome the problem. Because we can be slow with numbers, but that doesn't stop us from learning how to solve elementary operations.
