One of the direct effects of globalization is that it fights fascism. It is hard today for Nations to squash dissent violently without being put under a microscope. Countries without a strong presence of democracy, stability, nor law and order are ill-equipped to meet these challenges.
We take a look at how China has been exceptionally methodological these past decades preparing for fallouts. Hopefully, other countries realize the risks and not put their people, culture, and history at risk (Ethiopia, Nigeria, Venezuela).
China has taken great steps to prevent a future national embarrassment such as the likes of 1989. In recent years their policy has been to deter against that risk. The two main examples being the Uighur detention camps, and the Annihilate Poverty initiative.
Uyghur detention
For the Communist Party of China (CPC) this is necessary. Religion has always been a thorn for the CPC. People devote their lives to religion and with it comes questions. Questions that can pose issues for the CPC's rule of law.
The "re-education" camp China is sending their Muslims is an attempt to decrease potential strife against the CPC. If China doesn't fill the gap and Uyghur natives get the idea to pursue greater autonomy or even lean towards radicalization to do so there is nothing China can do about an insurgency. They've decided the best way to secure the far side of their border is through this completely wacky, and crazy experiment.
Annihilate Poverty
China is a country of 1.4 billion. But only 92 million people are members of the CPC. Despite lifting 100's of millions out of poverty, it will not prevent the internal rumble globalization will cause. However, they can try to contain it.
China decided to annihilate poverty the same way the problem was caused. Hidden agendas in the shadows. Only half of China's population had reliable internet access in 2018. The pressure for China to modernize while censoring and hiding their people from the rest of the world is coming to an end.
The CPC hasve been in the process of relocating 250 million people. 250 million people from simple rural villages will now live in modern houses, and get showered in CPC freebies. Must be a dream come true, right?
China is becoming a new country today, but the past will come up tomorrow. The next generation from those 250 million will ask "why were we so far removed from the state of affairs in the first place"? The CPC doesn't want cake on their face. They will be very accomodating.
I must point out that this potential "second wave" of GDP growth I think will most likely be dented by larger than expected immigration of the prior wave. A large percentage of them to Africa... setting up the next showdown in the U.S vs. China Hegemony battle.
In Conclusion Globalization doesn't come without whims. You will have to fight for the benefits. Developing countries will face massive challenges while emerging countries aware of the pitfalls are in a scramble to save face. Western institutions are also facing pressure, but still a long way from embarrassment.
