We were at Shida's hostel this summer. Here's some information about this place on the wonderful Lake Baikal. The hostel is located on the shores of Mukhur Bay, the largest and warmest Gulf of the Small Sea of Lake Baikal. The Small Sea is a shallow and well-heated strait that separates Olkhon Island from the mainland. The average depth of the bay is 2.5 meters.
"Shida" Translated from Turkic means "magic, witch."
Here, in 1951, Leningrad archaeologists discovered the parking lot and burial of ancient people dating back to the Bronze Age. In 2002, excavations continued and the burial of an ancient warrior was discovered. In 2003, the recreation center "Shida" received a prize for the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Irkutsk region. In 2005, the base won first place in the competition for the International Archaeological Conference with representatives of Canada, Ireland, Germany and other countries as a unique place on Lake Baikal
