Deutsch im Anschluß…

Today I want to take the time to rummage through my photo archive again, as @yetaras suggests ;-))

I'm stuck with breezy pictures: during a business trip to Ærø, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, I had a very nice assignment - the construction of a small biological sewage treatment plant on a remote farm - and plenty of time and opportunity to explore the quaint island.

It's not an overly large island, with few buildings and even fewer people. I enjoyed the hikes through the surprisingly varied landscape and the sweeping views across the sea. But I don't want to write about that today...

During my three-week assignment there, an open day was held at the local airfield and on this occasion, sightseeing flights over the island were offered at a trial price. We didn't need to be told twice and seized the opportunity.

The two pilots, who showed interested guests Ærø from above in their small aircrafts, used the event to complete their compulsory lessons for the renewal of their private pilot's licence at no cost to themselves - so it was an absolute win-win situation for us all.

Even from a bird's eye view, the island appeared tranquil and in any case predominantly agricultural. Nature is largely intact there; there are neither droughts nor floods, and energy is generated locally for the entire population. Wind turbines and solar panels constantly provide a more than adequate yield.

It would have been even nicer if it had been quieter inside the aircraft. Unfortunately, these twin-engine small aeroplanes are not well soundproofed; conversation was impossible and hovering above the clouds lost much of its charm after a few minutes due to the engine noise and wind noise. Nevertheless, it remained a wonderful experience that provided many exciting and unexpected impressions.

Even my clients, who had never seen their homes from the air before, were thrilled and immediately ordered some aerial shots of their yard.

I was very happy about this additional highlight of my trip and recommend anyone who is not plagued by a fear of flying or heights to treat themselves to such an experience. It is not for nothing that it is said: Only flying is more beautiful!

Heute will ich mir einmal wieder die Zeit nehmen und in meinem Fotoarchiv kramen, wie es @yetaras vorschlägt ;-))

Hängen bleibe ich bei luftigen Bildern: bei einem geschäftlichen Aufenthalt auf Ærø, einer dänischen Ostseeinsel, hatte ich neben einem sehr schönen Auftrag – die Errichtung eines biologischen Kleinklärwerkes auf einem abgelegenen Hof – jede Menge Zeit und Gelegenheit, die urige Insel zu erkunden.

Es ist kein allzu großes Eiland, das wenig bebaut und noch weniger bevölkert ist. Die Wanderungen durch die überraschend abwechslungsreiche Landschaft und den weitschweifenden Blick über das Meer habe ich hinreichend genossen. Darüber möchte ich aber heute nicht schreiben…

Während meines dreiwöchigen Einsatzes dort fand auf dem lokalen Flugplatz ein Tag der Offenen Tür statt und aus diesem Anlaß wurden Rundflüge über die Insel zu einem Schnupperpreis angeboten. Das ließen wir uns nicht zwei Mal sagen und packten die Möglichkeit beim Schopf.

Die beiden Piloten, die mit ihren kleinen Maschinen den Interessenten Ærø von oben zeigten, nutzten das Event, ihre Pflichtstunden für die Verlängerung der Privatpilotenlizenz ohne eigene Kosten zu absolvieren – es war also eine absolute Win-Win-Situation für uns alle.

Auch aus der Vogelperspektive wirkte die Insel beschaulich und auf jeden Fall vorwiegend landwirtschaftlich geprägt. Die Natur ist weitgehend intakt dort; es gibt weder Dürren noch Hochwasser, die Energieerzeugung für die ganze Bevölkerung erfolgt vor Ort. Windräder und Solaranlagen liefern stetig mehr als ausreichenden Ertrag.

Es wäre noch schöner gewesen, wenn es im Inneren der Maschine ruhiger wäre. Diese zweimotorigen Kleinflugzeuge sind leider nicht gut schallisoliert; eine Unterhaltung war unmöglich und das Schweben über den Wolken verlor durch den Motorenlärm und die Windgeräusche nach einigen Minuten deutlich an Charme. Dennoch bleibt es ein wunderbares Erlebnis, das viele spannende und unerwartete Eindrücke lieferte.

Auch meine Auftraggeber, die ihr Zuhause selber noch nie aus der Luft gesehen hatten, waren begeistert und orderten sogleich einige Luftaufnahmen von ihrem Hof.

Ich war sehr froh über dieses zusätzliche Highlight meiner Reise und empfehle jedem, der nicht von Flug- oder Höhenangst geplagt wird, sich einmal ein solches Erlebnis zu gönnen. Es heißt nicht umsonst: Nur Fliegen ist schöner!
