@disconnect has a bio that keeps motivating me at all times. Anytime I go through his blog to check for contests, my eyes would go to a sentence and that motivational sentence says;
Remember why you started and keep going.
Once I read this motivational quote, I'll remember why I started steemit and school and I'll press further. At some point in one's life, that person would be tired of something especially if he or she have faced discouragements severely, stress, imbalance and other misfortunes.
This may cause the person to say; I can't do again. I'm tired. In English, the action this person took is called Quit. What does it means to quit and what experience do I have about not quitting of which I didn't? These questions would be discussed in the course of this contest post. They say quitting is never an option. Is it really so?
What do you understand by the word Quit? |
---|
Quit is an English word used to describe an action whereby someone is tired of doing something, following a particular course in life or living. To enhance your understanding of this word, I'll use instances to clarify or breakdown the word.
- He's has been a worker in a company for many years and he salary has been dormant and sometimes delayed. The labour he puts everyday is worth increasing his salary but no. When it comes to payment, it may take two weeks before they are paid. He is tired of working in that company and decides to find another. He quit
- She's in school, an undergraduate. Her exposure to school stress has affected her physically and mentally somehow. She gets stressed everyday that she barely have time for other things. After studying hard for an exams, the results is poor. Subsequent academic year, the stress increases and she is faced with financial issues coupled with fair results. How will she cope? She decided to drop out and learn a skill that would be earning her money. She quit
- She is in a race and is almost close to the finish line. She has been running for minutes and is very exhausted. She tells herself. I'll not die and leave this race. She becomes relaxed until all others passed her and won the race. She quit.
So before someone quit, the person must have felt discouraged, weak, impatient, lack endurance and is faced with severe challenges that can weigh one down.
Have you ever being at the verge of quitting/giving up before? What were the challenges? |
---|
I'm being at that verge before especially when dealing with a work that's tedious. Reflecting on how huge the work is and how I've not even done half of it makes me have that feeling of giving up. Most times tears roll down my eyes and this occasions happen in school.
When I first started university, my happiness was a wide as the ocean. Little did I know it was a welcome bonus to stress. It all started with attending chain lectures from 7Am-5pm and then attending tutorial classes from 5pm-9Pm. I'll come back late in the night and my house from school is very long a distance, almost 1 hour drive. I'll come back home by 10Pm. My mom will always call me to ask of my whereabout.

I was seeking first class that first year in school. I did all it takes to have a strong first class that year. My parents would tell me to rest
I'll tell them rest stands for weakness. Everything that would make me pass is what I did. I endured the stress I passed through. My complexion was changed to black and I tried doing survival of the fittest schemes.
I do go for night class, read from night till morning. When my results came out, I smiled at my hardwork. I did same for the second semester but it was as if I was planned. After all my hardwork, my results changed but was still strong. I felt treated partially and doubted those results. Next year, I gave in my best but it kept reducing though I was on a weak first class. I became discouraged that I thought of giving up first class and school as a whole because my life was a mess. These were the challenges I faced.
Asuu strike for 10 months made me stay in one level for two years | |
---|---|
Suffering in the laboratory as it's not practical we do there but suffering in a hall | |
Attending lectures alone was discouraging because the crowd won't allow you benefit | |
Reading to pass exams made me feel like giving up school | |
Balancing school and steemit was tempting and uneasy. |
How did you overcome the challenges, (practical steps would be much appreciated) and how did you feel afterward. |
---|
It is said problems shared is problems solved. **Friends helped me resist all thoughts of giving up **. We would read together, encourage ourselves and then assist where there was need.
During night classes, we'll go together, gist and then read our book. When sleep comes, we'll take turns so our phones won't be stolen or picked. When I thought it was all over, support will come. It got to the point that I started combining steemit with school and still had perfect grades. If you want to know, I'll teach you how to do so.
Reading the bible and learning from faithful men and women who didn't give up in life. Reflecting on the example of job who despite all his predicament didn't give up or quit. His wife even told him to curse God and quit but he didn't
Meditating on the hope or aim of what I'm targeting has helped me too. If I give up in school now, why did I start? What was I aiming when I started? Sometimes we lose out in life because of quitting. If I had quit steemit, what would my life be like? So reflecting on all these has helped me.
What's your advice for those in your shoes? |
---|
For those in my shoes, I'll advice they think of why they started or embarked on a particular journey. They should look at the consequences of quitting when it's already late. The quality of patience and endurance help you. Sometimes the challenge of stress may be too much but what's the point of giving up now? Quitting means weaknesses except in some conditions where you see fit to quit if it doesn't favour you. When it comes to aiming something, you must finish what you started no matter what.
I can remember a man who was walking on a bridge to cross to the other side. On his way, soldier ants entered his trousers and made him uncomfortable. The prize of crossing was to receive 5M naira. He was not to look back, turn his body round or get distracted. So he endured the bite and pinch of the soldier ants inside his trousers. He would have quit because of the pain but endured because he had a future and a hope.
This is where I draw the curtains. @disconnect quote...
