In the early hours of the morning, they use stick as brush and head to farm from 6Am-7pm. They depend on natural resources for their food. The presence of market is where they exchange their commodities for money. Savings is the priority here. They do heavy weight jobs for little pay and don't mind. Electricity isn't a problem as they can do without it. All they know is life in the village which in English is called Rural area.

This is in sharp contrast with people who wake up early in the morning, prepare to go to work in businesses or in companies. They live normal lives and are exposed. Electricity is what many are dependent on. They do heavy weight jobs but do for for higher pays.

They don't work in the farm the way those in the village do. Saving and spending is their priority. They rely solely on finished goods. These kind of people live in developed areas called Town or City and in the English dictionary, it's called Urban.

Differentiate between urban and rural areas stating three major features

Every urban area were a rural area and most rural areas become urban areas with time. These are two opposite terms used to distinguish two set of people or lives. I'll be using pictures as well as words to differentiate between these two areas.

Rural AreaUrban Area
Rural areas are places that lack basic or major development in terms of of basic social amenitiesUrban areas are places that were once rural but the major development in social amenities visited the village and changed it for good.
In rural areas, there's nothing like traffic congestion because the population there is limited compared to that of the urban. People keep migrating from rural to urban on a daily basis but no one would migrate from urban to ruralPopulation keeps growing wild on a daily basis leading to traffic congestion and sometimes death due to overpopulation
The houses in rural areas are of low quality and standard. The use of bamboos, thatch, mud and wood is a priority PXL_20240131_110908583.PORTRAIT.jpg[rural buildings]Houses in urban areas are of good quality and standard. The houses are top notch I must admit. The use of good roofing sheets, aluminium windows, cement, expensive planes and bricks makes it firm are of standard PXL_20231019_160137822.PORTRAIT.jpg [urban buildings]
The use of firewoods is a major source of fuel in this area PXL_20240203_175613107.PORTRAIT.jpg[Rural cooking style]The use of gas cookers/cylinders is a major source of cooking food here pexels-photo-10432664.jpegUrban cooking style
Going to school or being educated isn't a priority here and even if it were, the quality of education is very lowGoing to school and obtaining quality education with established buildings and institutions that facilitate learning is a common observation in rural areaspexels-photo-207692.jpeg Pexel
Improvisation in lifestyle and good is what they are good at doing. They mix different leaves to come up with something that would enter the mouth. Eating food with less budget and ingredients is what people in this area are good at. Balanced diet isn't a priority32FTXiZsHoAW6noHJDhrg3W8ZKHVFSsLYM859aTDCF8iErVWAp5ADP1ZPKqmjJK7PsG1cw6hYfEeSpkBrGRwzFJskkRf7WDhnPsb1JsgekqrNVf87Uc72HE27HivyMLjMHfnvkicS8YpiAAa.jpeg rural foodEating meals that are rich and quality is what is prioritized here. Comparing food, rural areas food tend to be repulsive. PXL_20231111_165711677.PORTRAIT.jpgUrban food

Which area did you grow up and why?

I grew up in the village. My early childhood days were spent in the village. I was used to a lot of lifestyle there and was brought up by both my parents and the community. We never knew what light and good food was. All we knew was the stream, moonlight and childhood play. Leaving the house for farm as early as 6Am with us was what my mom was good at doing. She could stay all day in the farm ensuring the work is done before leaving.

Living in the area exposed me to life and hardwork in the most intense situation. I would harvest cassava, shell it, wash and grind it. After grinding, I'll dry, filter, fry and then preserve. Those in urban areas depending on our finished products to consume. We were like slaves to them. Seeing #100 naira then was an impossibility to me as I was just restricted to the village life.

Cooking food was done with firewood and stones compared to the stress free lives led in urban areas. I didn't see this as stress because I was getting used to it not until my parents migrated out of there to the city. Growing up in the city was difficult as u still had village lives. I was shy to put on my rug clothes to someone's wedding in the city compared to when I was in town.

I was in the rural area because my parents grew up there and seeing a house to rent in town was much more expensive. So they choose to remain there.

So life in the city exposed me to a lot of things and I'm on steemit because I am living in an urban area.

If you were told to go to the area you didn't grow up from, will you?

If the question were, would love to go back to the area I was before, honestly I wouldn't go back. Even as it stands now, I barely go to my village to pay visits because I can't cope with that kind of stressful life any more. I've been transformed mentally, spiritually, financially, academically and socially in the urban area compared to where I was before.

suffering in the village

If I were still in the village, I bet I wouldn't have known there's a way to make money without undergoing stress or doing it physically. Job opportunities to attain independence would pass me by because I'm in the den, in the dark. These and more are reasons why I can't return back to the village. To eat, you undergo painful labour called hardwork which is different in the city.

What things are there in the area you grew up from that aren't in the other?

Since I grew up in the rural area, I'll be proud to defend them in some things. One of such is their natural Ecosystem.

  • Life in the village is peaceful, free from incessant robbery and pollution in form of noise and air compared to the urban. The rural area doesn't have industries which is advantageous in preserving their ecosystem and giving them filtered sir to breathe and disadvantageous because the use of crude tools that are time consuming and stressful in manufacturing especially in processing Garri* wouldn't be used if industries were available.
IMG_20231223_135719.jpgRich in firewoodIMG_20231223_135712.jpg Rich in cocoa
  • Their natural resources like firewood, lands that are less expensive, fruits and edible vegetables they are so fresh are specialized in rural areas. They are rich in natural resources because trees are retained instead of being cut down to build houses. Fertile farmlands exist in rural areas than in urban.. Farmlands used for planting are readily available that's why majority go to their villages to farm and then bring the produce to urban areas for sell.

In summary, both areas are good no doubt but the overall benefits in life derives from Urban areas. Those living in rural areas are limited to a lot of things which they adapt to while those in urban aren't limited but exposed. Technology has equally made life easier in urban areas than in rural. I invite @basil20, @ngoenyi, @kouba01 to participate.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:

The effort you put into this piece is really amazing. I love the life in the rural environment, I love the serenity of that environment when compared with the noisy, buzzing and polluted urban environment. Anyways having a taste of both environment is the real deal because we can't get everything in a rural setting. I wis you the very best brotherly.

Hello friend @bossj23.

I can understand that the life you started in the village, taught you in a great way to value work, since it was not easy to sow and grow the food that cost them so much work to produce and then sell to those in the city to have income, although they were few.

In the village you grew up and began to work hard on the farm in a hard schedule from 6 in the morning until the evening hours.

There is no doubt that the advantages and disadvantages in the rural environment, filled you with many experiences. Now that you are in the city, you realize that although the city is hectic, the work is not as hard as in the village, which now allows you to work on the Steemit platform, which you met in the city and is a different way of earning income than in the rural area.

The village left you with good experiences, but the city makes life easier compared to the rural area, which was very hard because of the demands of the same conditions in the village.

Thank you for sharing your point of view on the topic of the challenge. Success.

Yes, I've really benefited from your comment Sir

Da anyin iduñ, the way you're analysing this your post, I feel like am missing something in the village. You said there's suffering in the village, my brother there's suffering in the town or city (urban area too). It's even better in the village. Apart from that no offense. Well done 👍

There's suffering in the town with hope but in the village, it's as if you're completely lost out in the world. Do you think you would have known steemit if you were In the village? Even if you knew, would network allow you enjoy blogging? 😂😂

My village is a develop area right now bro. Uyo for that matter, 🤣

You see? But wait, where in Uyo? I live there too

Ifa ikot idang, but am currently in Lagos.
