The Diary Game Wk2Day2 || 30-05-24 || Integrating Steemit to Enhance Learning Among Students in a Public School

Dear Diary,
It was the best of days I've had in a while, an interactive, social and satisfactory day. It was a day I also made a step towards changing the chemistry that wasn't there in the minds and hearts of the students I was entitled to handle. My integration of steemit in the learning process of these individuals proved to be the best reward/play way method of impacting their learning, enhancing their communication and reading skills and also give room for understanding of topics that seemed callous.

How? In what way did I integrate steemit to make this possible? The narrative has this. Guess what? I also introduced a stranger to steemit.

Morning Activities

Waking up very early in the morning has been a normal for me lately. Projects I work on are quite pressing and I needed to wake up early to get it done before other activities. I did my chores and then prepared myself to going to the school I was posted to create an impact. I considered the scriptures with my family before heading out. I couldn't wait for food to brought forward as I felt late.

I boarded a vehicle to the junction where I got an opportunity to buy a street food Bean cake and Bread which has always been a street food that aids workers leaving their house without eating. I then boarded a bus directly to where I was posted. The distance or journey was a 45 minutes drive. While on the bus, I kept myself busy by surfing the net and also doing some engagements on steemit.

After my engagements, I took to tapping some shit coins which has become a popular thing among members of my country. As I was tapping consciously, the lady beside me got interested and asked me what I was doing. I told her I was mining a shit coin. She then playfully asked if it would work. I told her the first of its kind did work and many doubted it. So I couldn't take chances anymore in as much as I'm not investing a dime.

She then related how she lost hundreds of dollars in this same crypto shit coin of a stuff and then told me to be very careful of any investment scheme as I may lose out. She felt pained by what she has lost on the space. She also narrated how she lost interest into doing anything online making money scheme or platform no matter how it's being preached.

I used 10 minutes in educating her about hasty generalisation which is a fallacy in philosophy. Not all online platforms are scam. You may have fallen for one doesn't mean another will do same. All you need to do is a research on whatever you want to invest your time or money on. I then introduced her to steemit. I started by telling her that there are some skills one can learn online and also earn from those skills. One of such is writing/content writing of which steemit is the answer.

I explained steemit to her in the best of ways and told her it's totally free. Her interest in becoming a member of this platform got me. At first, she told me she'll do her research then later after I alighted from the bus, ran from where she was to get my number so I can put her through. We exchanged numbers to show how serious she was. I don't know her from anywhere and that was how I promoted steemit that morning.

On getting to my school, I scanned the environment first to know what was popping. The administrations in the school were gathered under a Mango tree, discussing how to improve discipline and the learning system in the school. I knew this by eaves dropping from a distance. I then took to checking up on the class I was assigned to. It was occupied with a teacher who tried her possible best to control her class.

I then left to stay with my colleagues as the sun was just too much. The few minutes spent with them was like a the longest moment ever because we talked at length and I got to know something very crucial from them. Information is indeed power. You won't get an information less you reach out tactfully. That's how I got to know two important things I've never known;

• how to download videos from YouTube to your main phone storage, how to create an abridged website and get paid for every visit on the site and how to edit a picture so it won't look photoshopped

After receiving these knowledge for free, I also took to sharing mine about Steemit social media. They seemed interested not until our discussion was brought to an abrupt end because it was time for most of them to check in their assigned classes. I then left for mine and noticed the class was rowdy.. Those not offering Economics situated themselves behind the class and made the best of noise they could ever made.

My presence brought in total silence and I was in charge. I then took to spending time with those behind the class while the note on economics was being penned down by those offering it.. I used 5 minutes in giving out words of encouragements to these students. I then told them how I planned to change the chemistry in their class. I started by getting to know their problems.

• The chemistry teacher can't teach them to their understanding
• The physics teacher is error and they don't know anything in physics
• They only understand mathematics whenever the teacher is in the class. When she's out, they'll not understand again 😂. Quite funny but serious

I scanned all these and then took to using the project or grouping method to enhance their understanding in my next class. I told them that they'll be grouped into 10. Each group would have 10 students and what would be done is that in a week, I'll use the first two days and teach them to their understanding and then told them they'll have work on what was taught by reading the topic again and then presenter as a group presentation the remaining two days.

Whichever groups presented well would be posted on steemit and they'll receive incentives like past questions and writing materials at the end of my stay with them. Hearing I would post the groups that performed well on steemit social media was a motivation to them. They'll go viral and would be seem on the net. They promised to be of good behaviour during my teaching activities.

This was to help enhance their interest in education as most of them don't read because they don't understand what they are reading and they feel lazy about school in general. My integrating steemit is to serve as a motivation for them to learn as I promise to reward those who would perform well in my weekly quiz. This support system in their learning boosted the students and changed that chemistry by 40%.

I also told them they'll learn how to write letters, essays and stories from me. Whichever group writes well after being taught how to would be posted on steemit and also have their work snapped and posted as well, showing that those in public schools can actually be changed if the see room for changes.

This method of teaching seems to work for me and that's what I'll be using throughout my stay in that school. I did some tests with them and showed them how easy science subjects are. I used a chemistry problem they couldn't solve and showed them how to solve it in a minute. This boosted their morales. Before leaving, they were on my neck to give them a topic to read during the weekend. I did that and then told them I'll do the explanation next week.

Sometimes bring straight on students may be difficult to find their weaknesses. Not everyone in a class of 150 would understand a particular topic taught probably because some has problems bothering them or probably, they don't have interest in learning. That interest must be ignited so you'll get 70% to understand what was being taught.

I then left the school premises with my colleagues and headed for home. I was really a hectic day for me under the hot sun. That was how my day ended at home. Was proud to make an impact in people's lives today.
