I'm back again for this creative contest by @benton3 which gives me the chance to involve in my passion though in far from perfect. Today, I'll be drawing a mosquito which is a very common insect and tho small, it is so powerful, it causes the death of many through the sickness it gives. I'll also be sharing some knowledge on it.

MY STEPS IN DRAWING A MOSQUITO

First step: I started my drawing by making a diagram of the body of the mosquito, also called the satellium. This I got by drawing a small oval shape.

Second step: After drawing the body, I drew the wings of the mosquito.

Third step: Then I drew the abdomen of the mosquito. This, I got by drawing something like a tail with lines dividing it.

Fourth step: My next step was adding the eye of the mosquito and the antennae. I think this is where the sound comes from that disturbs in one's ear. The eye was made by drawing two small circles while the antennae was gotten by drawing two lines in opposite directions.

Fifth step: My fifth step in drawing a mosquito was drawing the legs of the mosquito. I drew four long legs tho not straight and I also finished my drawing by shedding parts of the mosquito like the eyes and parts of the wing and my mosquito drawing was finished.

FACTS ABOUT THE MOSQUITO

Mosquitoes are blood sucking insects that live in most parts of the world. They often pierce the skin and feed on blood. They are tiny but very powerful and have caused the death of over 725,000 people yearly. Mosquitoes cause a life threatening disease such as malaria and yellow fever. I see mosquitoes a lot where I live especially when it's rainy season or when there is stored water around. I have also been victim of malaria, a sickness caused by the bite of Mosquitoes.

• Only female mosquitoes bite and apart from biting, they transmit diseases.

• When the female mosquito bite, it also sucks blood. This blood gives them protein for the development of their eggs.

• Mosquito eggs, after hatching, becomes an adult after two days, and they start biting after these two days.

• Unlike the female mosquito called anopheles that bite, the male mosquito do not bite at all throughout their life cycle.

FEEDING AND HABITAT

• Mosquitoes feed on plant juice though the females also sucks blood of reptiles, mammals and birds.

• They dwell anywhere where there is a pool of water or stagnant water that allows the larvae to grow. Example gutter, potholes, forests, water in stored containers etc.

• They love resting in dark and cool corners abd then are attracted to some kind of lights.

• Mosquitoes can perceive smelling substances such as sweat and carbon dioxide produced by man. They prefer people with type O blood, high body heat, and pregnant women.

USE OF MOSQUITOES TO HUMANS

• Mosquitoes help in pollination of flowers. They visit flowers to obtain sugar-rich nectar.

• They link the food chain. The food chain would not be complete without the Mosquitoes.

• They are source of food to many animals example the larvae of Mosquito serves as food to aquatic insects like fish dragon fly, frogs, etc.

HOW TO PREVENT LIFE THREATENING DISEASES BY MOSQUITOES

• Always eliminate stagnant water around you and keep your gutters clean and dry.

• Use mosquito treated net to prevent their bite when sleeping.

•Use mosquito repellant when you are outside.

• You can use clothing that covers you and also wear socks to prevent them from reaching your skin.

• Take antimalarial drugs as prescribed by the doctor. Remember, the bite of mosquito which leads to malaria has killed a lot of people.

@jasga, thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate

You're welcome 👍.

Sorry to ask my dear,
Are you a biologist?

Because this drawing reminds me of some biology drawings I did back in high school. Much concern on the pattern of drawing.

I acknowledge your drawing skills, most especially as a lady, you've sketch even more than I could try. And also your contribution on the economic importance of them, in pollination and the food chain.

I've also made my entry, you can check it out.

good luck 🤞

@basil20, thank you.
