Introduction

Hello amiable steemites, hope your day is going on well. Mine is great as well, although am battling with heat here. Today is 29th of April and yet we are still battling with lack of rain, it has always been sunny and the heat is to much. My whole body and that of my family, has lots of rashes. These rashes are iching, redish and darkens the body. One cannot sleep at night without pulling off his/her cloths.

How its affecting the plants

I live in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The heat is so much that aside from affecting us human, it also affect our plants. It suppose to be a raining season but rain rearly falls, this cause the plants to die because of too much heat.

It suppose not to be so but we can not blame God. When I lived in the northern part of Nigeria, Adamawa State to be precise, it was a normal thing , rain falls around June or so. While here in Akwa Ibom State, it starts late March and April at times May, also there is no much heat like we are experiencing now.

Some plants do not only take time to spring forth but die authomatically.

Effects of the Heat

Some of the plants shrinks and die afterwards, some manage to grow, but this plants that manages to grow are not looking healthy.

If a plant is not looking healthy it will not bear healthy fruit.
I planted cassava , maize, pumpkin and melon.
These plants are turning yellow cause of lack of rain, the sun produces more heat and kills the plant, and to think that the situation in Nigeria made everyone to start planting cause of the hike in prices of foodstuff.

Priod of Harvest

Maize takes 3-4months to mature and harvest. Cassava takes from 6month - 1year or more depending on the type of cassava, cassavas are of varieties.

Pumpkin takes around 2months

Due to plants dying, the land (farm) is now scanty , this calls for replanting. One has to dig a shallow hole for cassava, look for cassava stem , cut and bury in the soil. This process is tidious though.
