Greetings and welcome to my blog
Democracy day ! A day set aside to celebrate democracy in my country, I am from Nigeria and today happens to be democracy day which we celebrate by the federal government giving the citizens public holidays. According to Ibrahim Lincoln democracy is defined as the government of the people by the people and for the people, but democracy is a system of government whereby citizens are allowed to express their rights in the country.
If you can agree with me the way we started democracy in 1999 is not the way it is today, we have advanced to one stage to another and now we have this challenge of judiciary determining who gets the most in our electoral system and I believe we will surpass it that is if members of our legislature will make laws that will control this situation, because you can see that the problem of those using their majority to suppress the real laws that will better the lives of the people are the problem we are also having not minding that this will also be at their own advantage in the nearest future. But if you ask me there's democracy in Nigeria, we are practicing it but we are not following the rules of democracy. For me democracy may not be the best, but we are practicing it, we should improve on it and we must struggle to make people do the right thing and the only people which can make it better is the legislature who is the father of democracy.

Democracy is not meant to be a concept, its meant to be a principle that will then indicate that democracy exist in a society. Nigeria is an aspiring democratic state which wish to be a democratic state , we are struggling to institute all of the principles of democracy. Why I said democracy is not meant to be just a concept as it is today, but that they are indicators that have to exist before you say a society is a democratic state. The point I am making is that Nigeria is an aspiring democratic state and we have to work hard to get close to become a democratic state. In our constitution, democracy is aimed at allowing the people to exercise their right, freedom of speech, freedom of movement and the rights of citizens.
Happy democracy Day......
