The Wedding Debt Trap: Beware!

in hive-147599 •  last month

Don't plan an event these days hoping to make money from gifts or donations from attendees so you can use the money to pay vendors and clear other outstanding debts. You will cry, and Soso will not be here to take your pains away.

If your budget is small, reduce the number of attendees and do a strictly on-invitation event. There is hunger in the land, and most people will hail you into debt.

"You are a big name ooo Beck; I want to see ten varieties of food and drinks."

"Baba you dey abroad no fall our hand ooo. Go hard or go home. Spend that money."

You will then be tempted to create a WhatsApp group for donations and invite someone like me you last spoke with in 2016 to contribute. Why? No courtesy of a private message first.

After the occasion, if you don't get enough gifts or donations to offset your debt, you will be angry with your new wife or yourself. Everybody will move on with their life, leaving you with debt.

If someone wants you to host a big reception, they should also contribute big money.

Don't bite more than you can chew.
