Greetings to all friends of Steemit and Steem4Nigeria
It's always exciting to make post in a community like Steem4Nigeria. Before I start I would like to invite two fellow Steemians @crismenia and @eveetim to participate in the contest.
Yesterday was a very special day. The car festival is held mainly in Eastern indian states. The most famous being the chariots of Puri Jagannath Temple in Orissa. There were 1-1.5 million visitors to pull the Rath. Unfortunately one person died due to suffocation.
The second most popular Chariot is Mahesh Rath in Hooghly district of West Bengal. I made a post of the Mahesh Rath in last year.
The Iskcon Kolkata held Rath yatra for last 53 years.
Day before yesterday I visited the street where hawkers were selling Rath of different sizes which are normally pulled by mainly small kids. There are supposed to be three clay idols of three siblings are placed in the Rath. They are Lord Joganath, Balaram or Balabhadra and Sister Subhadaraa. They used to go to the house of one Gopi (GF) but as Joganath falls feverish they stayed back for a week and return to their respective place of parmanent temple.
This year I saw Jwellery Shops are also decorated and giving some discount on purchase during seven days of Rath Yatra. One of the Store have made the God and godess as their theme of advertisement.
Yesterday morning I visited the Jagannath temple in the market. I got the blessings as well as sprinkle of holy water. They don't have any chariot so they worship in the temple for seven days.
Yesterday in the afternoon I visited Kalighat Temple of Kolkata where I saw the work of sky walk is progressing rapidly. The entire temple premises have renovated with relocating all Dala (Puja article including sweets and flowers) stalls arround the temple boundary.
While returning from Kalighat I saw small kid standing with his Rath alongwith his parents. Another child was crossing the road with his Rath in the lap.
This festival is celebrated in many places in India and also in other countries. There are a lot of festivals in Hindu belief, I have explored and saw many festivals in Pakistan which are resembling to Indian one.
