One important festival in the state is the Obim Mnele festival, which is celebrated by the obudu people. The festival is celebrated to mark the end of the farming season, and it is a time for the people to give thanks to the gods for a bountiful harvest and also to celebrate the death of Umuebe, the skull crusher. Umuebe was known for his ability to kill people and behead them. He even has a shrine where he keeps the head of the people he has killed. His death us celebrated every last Saturday of the fourth quarter of the year. During the festival, traditional dances, music, and masquerades are performed, and there is also a traditional wrestling competition.

We just finished a new semester in my school so we were on break. My mom hails from cross river state so we always go to her hometown every school break.
Umuebe, he was a very powerful warrior. He killed so many people , when he died they said they were going to bury him with the head of 5 people that he had killed , so many masquerade were going to be out thay night so when he died his burial ceremony was always going to be a big one. So the whole villagers were informed about his death and warned not to come out that evening.

My mom and my grandmother had just finished dinner and warned us not to go out.
That evening my siblings and I were already roasting yam outside the compound, there was no gate in the compound so one can see through.
I could hear the loud sound of drums approaching my house but all my mind was in the roasted yam.
My plan was to hurry up outside and get the yam and hurry back inside.
I waited patiently for the drums to pass. As soon as the people beating the drums passed. I hurried down to get my roasted yam and in shock i came face to face with the masquerade
Bumuede the Masquerade, was covered with bamboo leaves , it was huge and had no legs but could walked. Immediately i saw it, my whole legs became white and started peeling, i felt this burning sensation from my leg upward, it was spreading to my abdominal area almost compressing my nose. I quickly ran inside and screamed my moms name " Mummy, Mummy, Mummy i screamed so quickly called my grandfather.
My grandfather was a chief priest in that village, he took me and ran with me to a nearby shrine. This was the first time that I'll ever see a shrine. I was given dirty water to drink. The water was so smelling and bitter. As soon as i drank it he started performing some incantations for about 1 hour. Then i noticed that my body became normal again. It was a very terrible experience. My mom gave me the beatings of my life that. Oh what an experience!
