Hey, Stemians I hope you are all doing great. I feel delighted every time I come across this wonderful platform where you can share your ideas, concept, and life experiences as well. So today, I just want to share one of my experiences in the school of graphics while carrying out my last student design project (CEREBRAL PALSY PROJECT).

CEREBRAL PALSY
In early February, I received a mail from the School of Graphics to carry on the cerebral palsy student project. Cerebral palsy information (CP INFO) is a student project aimed at educating people, particularly in communities, on cerebral palsy. The project aims to use local languages to make this communication easy.

PROJECT GOAL

  • Educate people in the communities about cerebral palsy.
  • Inform people of possible cerebral palsy treatments.
  • Engage our community network and stakeholders with activity updates.
  • Make it easier for people to connect with hospitals to get help.

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Logo Design (logo, color scheme)
  • Social media post design
  • Print and stencil.
  • Website

My team had zero information about cerebral palsy, so I needed to make it realistic by consulting an expert in that field of study. Luckily, I met an expert at the University of Uyo teaching hospital. She has been in the field for 10 years now; trust me, I was happy, so in this regard, I started a question-and-answer session with her.

LOGO BRAINSTORMING
After the question-and-answer session with the doctor, we had to proceed to the next step of our project, which was creating a logo for the project. After brainstorming and sketching different logos, we later came to work on one logo that really highlighted our project's aim.

SOCIAL MEDIA FLYERS
I also created a social media flyer about cerebral palsy awareness. During our session with the doctor, we came to realize that parents of cerebral palsy patients do call them snake children, and some do put them in the forest to die. So, this flyer helped society understand that cerebral palsy is not the end of life but just a disorder that one can still survive. Here are the different social media flyers we created.

WEBSITES AND PRINTS
We had the privilege to meet some cerebral patients in March. We encourage them and give them some of the utensils we designed.
The website we created helps educate the world about the necessary information they need to know about cerebral palsy, like treatments, causes, and related symptoms, mostly from childbirth. It also gives more insight to help reduce the isolation patients with CP do feel.

In conclusion, I had good times with my colleagues during this project, and I must say a job well done to them. To all the cerebral palsy patients in the world, never feel isolated; we love you all. To all cerebral palsy parents in the world: never have this misconception that your child is a snake child; raise them and treat them with care because they deserve to live; and don’t forget that God will always grant you strength to cope.

What other ways can we show cerebral palsy patients love? Feel free to air out your mind using the comments section.
