Introduction

Hello!, good evening to steem4nigeria community members. It a pleasure participating on an interesting contest topic I found in this community Time Changes published by the steem4nigeria official account.

The cost of living has indeed increased in the recent years, this cause many people are struggling to survive. It is very frustrating and stressful to see the cost of basic necessities, like food and housing continue to rise while workers salary remain as before. This inflation is a real issue that is affecting people all over the world not just my country Nigeria.

I know it's not easy for a lot of people, if you face hardship try to remember that you are not alone in this. Many people are facing the same challenges. It's a very interesting topic as I'll look forward reading to know how bad inflation affect different countries. Before I proceed I'll love to break and invite my friends @preshy001 @jeph001 and @goodybest to participate in contest.

Mention 5 things that was there in your country 10 years back that isn't here now

Due to the advancement in technology, most of the olden ideas has been upgraded. Let's look at so of them below.

Typewriter Machine: this method of computing is no longer in the system as technology came up with a simplest idea, nowadays you can type with your mobile phone, laptops and othe digital devices.

Lantern: lantern was one of the main source of illumination especially at night back then when I was young, but at times goes on it started reducing in the market, this is because technology has bring the idea of electronic light which is more comfortable and easy to handle.

Radio Cassette: back then, if you own a radio without cassette it may seems boring, because audio was tape and record in them. But now technology has eradicate this method by making it easy to store music in a micro chips example, memory card and other chips.

CD players: nowadays streaming music has largely replaced physical media like CDs.

Handwritten letters with the rise of email and text messaging, fewer people are writing and sending letters by mail.

There many of them, but for the sake of this contest hint I'll leave with this five.

Is the value of currency used in your country appreciating or depreciating?

Sincerely speaking the Nigerian currency has been depreciating. This is as a result of inflation, the price of oil and the country foreign exchange reserves. The Naira has been losing value against major currencies like the US dollar and the Euro. This has caused problems to our country economy, as it makes imports more expensive and hurts businesses that rely on exports. But hopefully our government is working to address these issues and stabilize the Naira currency. Our biggest prayer🙏

Deliberate on the prices of 5 commodities in your country 10 years back and now

The inflation in commodities here in Nigeria is nothing to compare, it hurts and make life so uncomfortable as most citizens try very hard to survive.
Have a view of the below table.

COMMODITIES PRICE TEN YEARS BACK CURRENT PRICE
Cement N1,500 per bag N13,000 per bag
Beans N30 per cup N260 per cup
Petrol N85 per gallon N730 per gallon
palm oil N2,500 per gallon N25,00 per gallon
Rice N30 per cup N350 per cup

Has these changes affected you? If yes, how. If no, tell us your secrets

Yes, it has really affect not only me but the entire nation, due to this high cost of living I find it very difficult to afford myself things I suppose to. My parents are ready trying hard to gather for the family compare to the previous days.

This has caused a new system eating, I now play along with 1.0.1, 1.0.0, 0.1.0, 0.0.1, luckily 1.1.1. this system is a code for eating, those three digits represent morning, afternoon and evening, where we have zero signify that you haven't eaten.
Not just food alone, there are many things I find difficult to purchase for myself due to the high cost. Ooh God help us.

I remember those days my grandparents will be yelling at me every night to wash the glass of a Lantern before putting on fire, the stress was too much. What's happening now? Time changes indeed and we're enjoying this digital world.
