Good morning my steem4nigeria members, I believe we all are doing good. It's a pleasure that I came across and interesting contest which I could afford skipping to share my idea, opinion and experience as well.
I'm looking forward to sharing my story with you. Today, we'll be exploring four(4) key points and discussing how they impact in our lives.
The contest topic is as followed Parental Enforcement of Decisions on Children organized and published by @steem4nigeria.
It do happen in most family that parents enforce decisions of the children, reason not being to hurt or cause harm in their future but rather to set a good direction for them. Or maybe to fit what they desire or crave for, but there some questions that should be most time considered. Do our children really love our decision?, Will our decision Best fit what they are good at?, Do our decision really fit our childrens passion?, Will I have to be blame if my decision later turn out wrong and ruin my children carrier, lifestyle and marital conduct?.
Let's explore more as I am going to write on four points as directed in this contest, but before I continue I'll love to invite my friends @ngoenyi, @ruthjoe, @jeph001 and @goodybest to participate in this contest. I'll be looking forward to reading your entry.

Do you think it is okay for parents to influence the decisions of their children? |
---|
Like I earlier suggested, parents do influence their there decisions to their children not to cause harm but rather to be beneficial in protecting them from harm, provides guidance and better directions, utilising parental experience and wisdom and ensuring stability of security or bad influence in the society.
So in this case I'll say it's okay for parents to influence their decision on their children, but it's good to remember implementing autonomy and decision making skills as their children grow.
During the time of marriage or when deciding a course to study in school, what is the place of parents in giving their children guidance? |
---|
I can say making a significant life decision like marriage or choosing a course of study parents have to play their roles supportively by offering guidance and advice based on their experience and wisdom being that they've gone through all more than 70% of this area, providing emotional support and encouragement is also needed.
Helping them on how to weigh options and consider making choice from different perspectives. While playing the role it's crucial to observe respecting their childrens autonomy and decision making ability as I said earlier,
Also avoiding to impose their own desires or expectations.
By balancing this shows the wisdom and boundaries for influencing decision on their children, and that should be their proper place of giving guidance.
Can a parent actually misguide their children in decision making? |
---|
Yes, parents can actually misguide their children in decision making but most time not intentionally. This may happen due to imposing their bias and limitations on their children, it can also happen if parents fail to consider not to project their own unfulfillment, dreams or aspiration on their children think of using them to achieve.
It's a very bad practice to do such, it can happen if parent fail to understand their children unique strength and passion. The worst if trying to wheel their childrens mind to fit what they want by providing them outdated and inaccurate information.
Do you have any experience of your parents enforcing decisions for you against your will or experience of someone you know ? |
---|
Yes it happened and was helpful is setting a good direction for me as a kid then, but as I started growing they started understand the need of being autonomous in decision making. Their initial influence has been the one guiding me in any decisions I'm making in my life.
In conclusion, parents influence in decision making have a vital role in shaping their children live, but while implementing the influence it is very important to observe and support autonomy in decision making as time goes.
Doing this will help them on how to weigh options and consider making choice from different perspectives, it will also add wisdom if considering supporting their children decision even when it differs from their expectations.
Thank you all for your time, I appreciate and love you all.
The place of parents in guiding their children on career studies lies on the parents weighing the strengths and weaknesses of the children before making recommendations
