Traditional Roles and Values:did they serve us better?

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New year celebration in advance. It is an opportunity to participate in this contest organize by @manuelhooks in order to exploit our various view on our traditional roles and values.

To dwell on this topic deeply, let us look at the meaning of tradition. Tradition is a culture and total way of life of a particular group of people which is transfer from generation to generation. Now what's value? Value simply means the degree of importance given to something.

Now, we can say traditional value are cultural principles, idealogies, laws, and etiquette which is transfer to a particular group of people for generations. Therefore, we have many roles of traditional values in our society but the emphasis lies in the question, "did they serve us better?"Looking at this question it could be either be positive or negative influence.
Therefore,let us solve the below questions for better understanding and clarification.

What were the established traditional roles of men and women in your society before the obvious change.

Some of the roles applicable to all gender in my society was:
Men were given a special status compare to the women. Men's job is to go for hurting and farming in order to carter for their family while a heap responsibilities is taking care of by the women by taking care of the children, cooking,washing, sweeping and every domestic responsibilities is done by the women while the men don't consider that,and also men maltreat their wives emotionally by marrying multiple women.

Women voices doesn't count in our society.

Women were over used in my society. Infact they were used as beast of burden.

Women are used as slaves for men and later sold out for slavery when they men don't want them again.

Have the change in roles and values resulted in something positive or negative? Please explain.

I would love to talk about the positive aspect of the role of traditional values and how it serves us better.

1. It promotes our cultural identity by showing the world, how and why we do our things.
2. It makes us unique:Every tradition is unique and special to her own people.
3. It makes us to appreciate our culture and tradition.
4. It's secretive,in such away that every culture has a secret that is only common to her people.
5. The tribes and numerous dialect we speak, promotes oneness and unites us together.

How has the change in roles and values affected the family structure and the upbringing of children?

The roles and values affects the family structure and the upbringing of children both positive and negatively but I would love to dwell on the negative view of it.

1. It weakens the girl-child and makes her to become worthless in the society.
2. There's total inferiority complex common to the girl child.
3. High level of rejection becomes order of the day to the girl child.

In the family where there's combination of girls and boys,they boys mostly are acknowledge as been futuristic while the girls are nothing but use as kitchen tools,and that becomes disheartening to the girl child and makes them lukewarm in their daily endeavor because the feel all their efforts will end in the kitchen someday.

What will you say to advocates of Patriarchy who believes that it fills the woman's need to have someone with more power and experience to take care of her.

Looking at it drastically,I don't believe in patriarchal way of handling women, whereby the men control the affairs of women. Women are mothers who take care of children and nurture them to adulthood and some women are the foundation of their homes. Therefore, women can take care of themselves even without the supervision or guidance of men. Some women are nation builders,so they should be entitled to their own opinions and decisions.

What role has technology and the economy played in the change in roles and values?

We are in 21st century, technology and the economy played a crucial roles by destroying most of our traditional values by making the youths to become more expose to the internet and become irresponsible in the society due to technological influence and misconduct even though it has positive influence on the society when it is use effectively. eg using of Steemit and other reliable internet platform.

Conclusion
The Africa world is tiring apart and our traditional values and culture is gradually going on extinction due to the rising of technology. And also the issue of patriarchy on women is becoming the order of the day in Africa, therefore gender equality is the only solution to this problem which still remains unsolvable in Africa.
