My Town in Five Pictures

The city of Uyo is a fast diveloping city in southern region of Nigeria, located at an altitude of 18.45 m (60.52 ft). 5.0377° N, and 7.9128° E. The natives of Uyo are the Ibibios, a people known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition.

Blessed with a unique culture that encourages hospitality towards strangers, tasty dishes, colourful dressing and events with an easy to learn language.

One of the first feature of my town that is hard to miss is it's road network. From the time you touchdown at the airport, you are welcome by a seemingly endless streach of road that runs in and through the town, branching out into a network of roads that makes driving a relaxing experience.
This picture was captured along General Edet Akpan Avenue with Villa Hilton hotel in sight. Easily identified by the locals as 4-lean, even though it's actually an eighth lean road linking Nwaniba Road to Oron road and continues as a four-lean road down to Aka road ending at Idoro Road.

The State Secretariat Annex, locally known as Dakada Secretariat is a four story office building that houses government parastatals. In this building we have the ministry of works and transport. Ibom Airs also has an office in this building.
The building stood unused for some years before it got converted and used for this purpose. It is said to have been built as part of the Tropicana chain of building.

The Ibibios Union Museum park is a beautiful masterpiece of engineering, a circular glass house that contains priceless cultural artifact that tells the story of the Ibibio people. It contains carvings, paintings, pictures, sculptures and other artworks. Around the house is a green field where a lot of outdoors activities are hosted. You can host an outdoor activity here and it's totally free as long as you are not up to a crowd. Out last steemit meetup for AkwaIbom was hosted in this venue. We played football and had a good time.

Nature Farms and resort is the choice destination if you want to get close to nature, it's calm and green with flowing rivers and fish ponds. The resort is locally known as "point and kill" because you can get life fish from it's ponds prepared into a very tasty pepper soup dishes. You can enjoy this freshly cooked fish in any of it's naturally cool bars while enjoy the smell and sound of rushing water. A casual stroll under it's many palm trees of feeding the fish can be very relaxing.

The Ibom Plaza round about is at the heart of my town, it's a location that carries the history of Uyo. Years back, this roundabout was the converging point for:
1- Oron Road
2 - Barracks Road
3 - Ikotekpene Road
4 - Abak Road and
5 - Aka Road.
All five major roads originated from this central point and as a result had a lot of traffic buildup. I this picture was captured while heading to the roundabout from Barracks Road. A cricent was latter used to divert traffic away, connecting Oron Road, Aka Road, Abak Road and Ikotekpene Road.
