Hello and welcome to my blog, I shall be participating today in the Accelerator Contest Week 8; organize by steem4nigeria, it is an interesting contest to write on A local indoor game native to my people.

Tell us a little about the culture of The People who play this game.

The Gembu people occupy northern Nigeria and dominate the Mambilla plateau Sardauna Local Government of Taraba State Nigeria. The Gembu weather is very cool like Moscow and residents build houses on hills and valleys due to the Tomopograpgy of the lands.

The people are peaceful and loving at all times, the vegetation and environment are amazing, and it is a center for tourism and research for many researchers due to the endowment of natural resources, wild animal life, and vegetation.

The most popular language spoken in the clan is Mambila, Kaka, Kambu, and Panso, Fulani among others. The environment is good and therefore attract investors to set up processing companies like the Highlands and Lipton Tea, Cocoa Refineries, Timber shade, and wood processing and getting all kind of animal species as well as Mining.

Most of the people are farmers, and the usual activities schedule is to go to the farm in the morning then rest and play games or go to events in the evening.

One of the indoor games mostly played in my Community is "Draughts". This is one of the games I observed that bring elders together and calculate very seriously how to make a smart move to win.

How many players can play the game and Is it gender or age-sensitive?

Only two players can play the game at a time, each player takes control of 20 seed and try to defeat his opponent.

The game is gender and age sensitive, I hardly see women play the game and I think the simple truth is that it is time-consuming and mostly played around the market site or even in beer parlors which is so inappropriate to see a responsible woman doing that.

Children also do not mostly play the game, it is known as the game of elders in my place. Though is not an abomination or restriction for women or children to play at their closeth but is rare to see it in general or public game sports.

Can the game be played in different ways? And What are the rules of the game?

No! The game has just one original principle which can not be changed, so it cannot be played in different ways.

To start the game, you will need the Draughts Board, draw 10X10 boxes the other plain and the next to be colored. A set of 20X2 painted in a different color is needed as well each player picks a side and the game begins.

To win the game, the player needs to capture all his opponent players by simultaneously jumb-crossing the opponent players. To start, each player chooses a color containing 20 pieces of players, lay them on the board, and begging to move with the box space selected, the box at the end of the players is the king spot which gives liberty to the fly movement.

The game is played turn by turn, every player aims to capture the opponent and not to allow another opponent to have access to penetrate.

Multiple jumps are allowed if the player jumps to kill have another opportunity to jump again, the player has to think to make the kills and defeats opponent players.

Can a player cheat in this game? and Are they any useful skills, or physical or intellectual abilities that can be acquired playing this game?

No. It is straightforward and open, it will be hard for a player to cheat. All eyes are on the board and once you play, once played cannot be reverse pop so it is hard to have space or opportunity to cheat or manipulate the game.

What could you do to preserve this cultural heritage?

I love to play the game and I also teach others to keep the legacy of the game. The game is interesting and it helps someone to be calculation and analytical skills. The game is well respected and called the game of the elders.

In conclusion, playing games is good in terms of relaxation, recreation, and preventing someone from thinking of something bad. Thank you for reading.
