A TIME WITH MY LITERARY STUDENTS

INTRODUCTION

Teaching literature is quite different from teaching other subjects. The technicalities, the drama, the fun and excitement that characterize the classroom atmosphere makes it all fun and exciting. I want to tell you my experiences and the memorable moments I had with my literature students in my former high school.

EVERY LESSON A FUN TIME

My literary class was more of a theatre cause of the practicals that were involved. I made sure I divided the class into a small group of 5 each, who would act a short drama before the class began. This prepared the students interest into the lesson. Every group was always begging to present each day. To avoid a fight, I had to schedule time-table for presentation. I remember a day led by Mercy, the one with smile. She was so talented playing the role of a protagonist with her two friends, Daniella and Mary. Oh it was fun!

A MOMENT AFTER THE CLASS

Another fun moment arrived immediately after the class. Everyone wanted to practice and rehearse a character he or she represented. Students caught fun amd showed their swags. Each wanted to outrun the other. Oh my God, Favour enjoyed acting a monodrama and took the stage alone. Sometimes their actions relieved my stress occasioned by loads of work. I felt so happy teaching this class.

ON THE GRADUATION DAY

I was shocked to notice that what i started like a play could end them an award. On the send forth day for the graduating students (SS3), dressed in their different costumes, my students took the atmosphere by storm. Well prepared, they presented a piece from the play, LET ME DIE ALONE, an African play that x-rays the activities of the whites on African soil, giving power to the women and introducing them into politics (represented by the character, Yoko). The presentation was wow! I was happy that I had hunted talents to be monetized. Oh the tallest student in the middle with a traditional cap acted a protagonist.

MORAL LESSON

I had learned a whole lot from my experience in my former school with the students. Every teacher should try and make learning a fun. Every situation could be improvised just to give a meaning to a situation. Exciting moments can relieve stress and keeps you happy. Thanks for reading my moment with my students. Regards!
