The Diary Game - 25th April 2022- Spent my Birthday at Work.

Hello Steemians, I trust everyone is doing great. I'm here again to share my dairy with you guys and I hope you enjoy reading it. Today, I will share with you how I spent my birthday at work. I work with Novelty Plus services as a Mechanical Technician. I joined Novelty Plus Services after my undergraduate project defense on the recommendation of my supervisor. My supervisor tutored the director of Novelty Plus services and his recommendation made it very easy for me to be accepted into the organization. It's not a big firm, just teams of mechanical and electrical engineers.

Being a maintenance and services firm, our company has contracts with engineering firms here in Portharcourt and outside the state. We work for companies like Steve integrated, Nestoil services, Etopo energy, DeCi integrated, Fareeda, etc. We are experts in servicing, maintenance, and installation of Internal Combustion engines with a focus on Diesel engines. Our major equipment is Caterpillar Engines, Marine equipment, and Industrial Pumps.

Before leaving home this morning, I have already received birthday wishes from my girlfriend. She’s the only one aware of it today. I didn’t make any post about it on social media but I’m sure Facebook will notify my friends about my birthday. I left home around 7 am to meet my senior colleagues at work. We have scheduled to travel to the site by 8 am today. We have an excavator that failed while in operation at the Ogoni cleansing site. Firstly, we move in to determine the reason for the system failure and then make a decision depending on the cause of failure.

Let me explain a little bit about the famous Ogoni Cleansing. Well, this is just the treatment of contaminated areas from oil spills. The soils are being excavated and treated with chemicals. Then the soil is replaced after treatment. After this treatment, the soil is then suitable for agricultural activities.

We didn't spend much time at the site because the cause of the failure isn't what we can fix immediately. The nozzles failed and need some servicing. The engine is not firing properly and also shuts down after operation for 10mins. We spent 30 minutes pulling out the nozzles and took it CTP for inspection. We will be coming back the following day to install the nozzles back into the system.

After that, we went to Anchorage to continue an engine overhaul we started two weeks ago. We were overhauling the generator of the Etopo vessel. The engine knocked due to poor maintenance of the service engineers. This is a C32 Caterpillar engine generator. The vessel run with two generator sets which must be running in good condition before the vessel can sail.

Our team arrived the Anchorage on a speed boat. We entered the vessel and put on a safety kit and earplugs because it was noisy in the generator room. The other C32 generator was running while we were trying to fix the other one on the starboard side. We were able to install the injectors and cover the engine. It was already late and we needed to leave the site home. We will be back again to connect the wires and sensors on the engine. This particular job will be done under the supervision of the company director because it requires expertise and attention to be carried out effectively. A communication adapter will be connected to the system for simulation and also check the state of the sensors after installation.

This job has exposed me to a lot of adventures because most of the equipment we fix is marine equipment and we mostly travel by water to the sites. Sometimes, we travel to other states and spend some days before returning home. Though the job is stressful because we deal with heavy-duty engines and this also requires heavy manpower and heavy tools to work on the machines. I haven't been paying attention to the job since I started the national service program (NYSC). Also, I’m looking to resign from the job after this month so I can focus on my programming skills and pursue a master's degree in industrial engineering. I have learned a lot from the job and I believe that the knowledge I have acquired will help me sometime in the future.

I almost forgot about my birthday because I was busy at work and I didn't have much access to my phone. I missed a lot of phone calls from family and friends and also birthday wishes. The love was massive and I thank everyone who celebrated with me yesterday. After I left work, I went to the park to receive my birthday gift from my girlfriend. The gift was sent from Abuja the previous day.

She got me a rechargeable fan, perfume, and a bottle of peanuts. I have already finished the bottle of peanuts with my friends at home before writing this post 🤣. I once complained about the hot temperature here in Portharcourt. She got me this fan as an alternative during a power outage. I couldn't believe she had that in mind.

I was invited by my friends to celebrate my birthday. I turned down the invitation because I was very tired after work and needed some rest. I wasn't able to return the calls and messages I missed while working. Hopefully, I will do that this morning after writing this post.

Once again, special thanks to everyone who celebrated with me yesterday. Thank you for reading my diary.

Hello what a pleasure to see part of your work and part of your country at first I thought it was like a gold mine.

Since I am a fan of gold mines and gemstones I studied gemology for about 3 years.

That boat in the background of the photo is huge that's like a river I guess amazing day greetings.

That's an anchorage for vessels. Those are huge ships anchored mainly for maintenance. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my diary. Thank you.
