Good day steemians, last week has been truly engaging. Today I would like to enlighten you all on the common types of phobia. Are you a phobic person? Are you wondering what kind of phobia you have? Read through this article and find out.

Phobia isn't necessarily fear. Infant phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of something or situation that poses no real threat or danger. This feeling can be so overwhelming the patient can go to any length to avoid the source of the fear. Most time, exposure to the source of the fear triggers an immediate anxiety response. The patient is overwhelmed with terror at the prospect of coming in contact with the source of the fear.

HOW CAN YOU IDENTIFY YOUR PHOBIA?

Phobia often has peculiar characteristics that distinguishes it from the normal kind of fear. They include

  • The individual realises that such fear is unreasonable and it is not due to the actual danger of the feared object or situation.. It becomes persistent for a long period of time without mitigating.
  • It is something that cannot be controlled with logical explanation or reasoning
  • The individual experience some of these symptoms; excessive sweating, trembling, exhaustion and so on.
  • It becomes out of proportion to the real threat or danger of the objector situation
    People experiencing such phobias are adequately aware of how irrational their fear is but can't do anything about it.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF PHOBIAS?

Phobias are now classified into three which include;

  • Fears related to medical treatments or hospitals. Example; fear of blood (hamophobia)
  • Fears related to specific situations. Example; fear of being in aan enclosed space (claustrophobia)

SOCIAL PHOBIA

     This phobia is characterised by fear of being humiliated, embarrassed or scorned by others in a social situation. It often happens during public speaking, coping with authority figures, eating in public and meeting people.

AGROPHOBIA

This is an irrational, extreme fear of having a panic attack in places where escape may be difficult or embarrassing.

It is the excessive fear of something that cannot hurt them that is very concerning for me. Therapy is always the best way to help them, although antidepressants can be used as well.
