Human rights can be defined as the fundamental rights established by the Government to help protect the dignity of human beings.
Some of the Nigerian fundamental human rights includes
Right to life.
Right to freedom of speech.
Right to vote and be voted for.
Right to ownership of property anywhere in the Country.
Right to freedom of movement etc.
How is the level of human right in your place?
In my Country currently, human rights does not have value again. We live in a lawlessness Country where the rich, powerful and influential people get away with whatever they do because they believe that money is everything. They use their money to sort out everything where as the poor people suffer. On daily basis, girls are raped and these rapist goes Scot free.
Do you think you're currently enjoying your fundamental human rights as a citizen of a Country? Tell us how you have been enjoying it.
I'm not enjoying my fundamental human rights. We live in constant fear in this Country, we always fear for the unknown because everyday comes with its peculiar issues. If it's not armed robbery it will be kidnapping and incessant killing. There is no job and the youths are venturing into kidnapping and robbery to make ends meet. Nothing is working again.
Do you have a Story where your right were trampled on?
It doesn't have to be about you. Just tell us a case where someone had their rights trampled on by someone who should have upheld.
On many occasions I have witnessed the violation of the fundamental human rights.
There was these rich and Influential man in my town that was dragging for a piece of land with a poor man. The poor man was the rightful owner of the land but because the rich has bribed the kinsmen, the case was settled in his favour.
When Nigeria SARS was till functioning, I know of this guy that was arrested by the SARS he was detained and tortured by them for several months. The painful aspect was that anytime his parents or relatives comes to see him, they will be told that the guy is not with them. It took the intervention of a Rev father we meet with the Governor before he was released.
I pray and hope that those in Government will ensure that every citizen enjoys their fundamental human rights. I invite @gift08, @prince2004 and @ndyana to participate in this contest
